You know what struck me first about Moon Bologna? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – there’s something quietly celestial about this place that sits tucked away on Via della Ghisiliera, just far enough from the tourist chaos but close enough that you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in maybe fifteen minutes. I mean, you’re practically neighbors with the locals here, which honestly is exactly what you want in Bologna. The street itself is one of those narrow cobblestone numbers that feels authentically medieval, and you’ll hear the gentle clatter of heels on stone in the morning as people head to work – it’s oddly soothing, actually.

The hotel itself feels like someone took a 4-star property and decided to run it like they actually give a damn. Check-in was smooth (they spoke perfect English but seemed genuinely pleased when I attempted my broken Italian), and the lobby has this warm, contemporary vibe without trying too hard to be trendy. The rooms – well, mine faced the courtyard, so it was blissfully quiet at night, which you’ll appreciate since Bologna can get surprisingly lively after dark. The bed was one of those firm European ones that somehow leaves you feeling more rested than those squishy American mattresses, and the bathroom had proper water pressure, which… look, if you’ve stayed in enough Italian hotels, you know that’s not always guaranteed. There’s this attention to detail that shows up in weird places – like the hangers were actually good ones, and the WiFi didn’t drop every time someone used the elevator.

But here’s the thing that really got me: the breakfast spread was genuinely impressive, with local pastries that tasted like they came from the bakery around the corner (they probably did), and the coffee was strong enough to fuel your morning walk to the Quadrilatero food market. Speaking of which, you’re maybe a ten-minute stroll from all those incredible food stalls and the basilica towers, but you’re also close enough to the university area that you get this nice mix of students and locals in the nearby cafés. The staff seemed to know their neighborhood too – they pointed me toward this little osteria that definitely wasn’t in any guidebook but served the best tortellini in brodo I had the entire trip. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage, and honestly, you probably won’t need your car much once you’re settled in. That 9.6 rating isn’t just numbers on a screen – it’s the kind of place where small things are done right, consistently, without fanfare.

  Everything was just perfect for our vacation. Traveling with teens could be challenging, so it's important to choose a place, close to supermarkets, places to eat, and within walking distance to the city center. The suit was our home for 5 days, it was cozy, with everything we needed. Alberto, our host, was always ready to help with useful information. I highly recommend Moon Bologna!

  Good size, very clean, comfortable bed and living room with kitchen in a quiet building with secure parking in the adjacent gated yard. Windows have mosquito nets and can be safely opened to create a refreshing breeze. Free washing machine & dryer, a godsend when traveling. 20minutes easy walk from central Bologna, cafes and trattorias nearby. Owner was very helpful with information and kindly facilitated parking ahead of check in time. We would happily stay again.
