Tucked away on Via Mirasole – which, let’s be real, you’d never find without GPS – this little gem sits in what used to be a residential palazzo. The address says “interno 3” which basically means you’re walking through a courtyard to get there, but that’s actually part of the charm. It feels like you’re being let into someone’s private world rather than just checking into another hotel.

The whole vibe is… well, it’s hard to describe without sounding cheesy, but it genuinely feels like staying at a sophisticated friend’s place. You know, the kind of friend who has impeccable taste and actually knows how to make a space feel warm. The rooms have this perfect balance of old Bologna character – think exposed beams and original terracotta floors – mixed with modern touches that actually work. I mean, the bathroom amenities were better than what I have at home, and the bed linens? Ridiculously soft. The kind where you’re tempted to ask where they got them (I may have actually done this at checkout).

What really won me over was the location, though. You’re about a ten-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but here’s the thing – you’re on this quiet residential street where actual Bolognesi live. In the mornings, you’ll hear the local coffee bar opening up, and there’s this tiny osteria around the corner that serves the best tortellini in brodo I’ve had outside of someone’s nonna’s kitchen. The staff at Mirasole actually recommended it, which tells you something about how plugged in they are to the neighborhood.

Parking was surprisingly manageable – they sorted out a spot for me in a nearby garage, which in Bologna’s centro storico is basically a miracle. And the sound situation? Dead quiet at night, even though you’re still properly in the city center. I’m usually a light sleeper, but I slept like a baby every night. The only “complaint” I’d have – and I’m reaching here – is that the Wi-Fi in my room was a bit spotty, but honestly, being slightly disconnected in a place like Bologna isn’t the worst thing in the world.

Check-in was refreshingly personal too. No corporate script, just genuine recommendations about where to eat, which gelaterias to hit (apparently there’s a heated local debate about this), and how to time your visit to the markets. They even marked up a little map with their favorite spots, which felt like getting insider intel from a local friend.

Look, Bologna isn’t overrun with tourists like Florence or Rome, but it’s definitely having a moment. Mirasole Home gets that balance right – it’s polished enough that you feel well taken care of, but it hasn’t lost that authentic, lived-in feeling that makes Bologna special in the first place. If you’re the type who wants to experience a city rather than just see it, this is your spot.

  Spacious and clean apartment in an excellent location, convenient to the city centre. Located on a fairly quiet street, not too far from grocery store. Good natural lighting and picturesque neigbourhood view from the back window. The kitchen/dining area was particularly charming. We also liked the shower! The host was very accommodating when we requested to drop our luggage off early. We are a retirement-age couple.
  
  What could be improved: If considering this apartment be aware that there is no elevator, as is the case with many historic buildings. The apartment is located on the second floor (third floor to North Americans) so not accessible and a potential challenge to those with mobility concerns.
