So here’s the thing about Memo Apartment – it’s tucked away on Via Antonio Gramsci, which honestly might be one of the best-kept secrets for staying in Bologna’s centro storico. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but the street itself is surprisingly quiet for being so central. The building has that classic Bolognese feel with the porticoes you see everywhere in the city, and when you walk up, you immediately get the sense that this place actually cares about details. The entrance doesn’t scream “tourist hotel” – it’s more like staying at a well-designed friend’s apartment, which I guess is exactly what they’re going for.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between local charm and modern comfort. The apartments themselves are spacious (and I mean actually spacious, not European-hotel-spacious), with these beautiful high ceilings that make you feel like you’re living in a piece of Bologna’s history. The kitchenettes are fully equipped too – not just for show – which is perfect because you know you’re going to want to pick up some mortadella and Parmigiano from Tamburini just around the corner and actually have a proper place to enjoy it. The bathrooms are sleek without being sterile, and honestly, the water pressure is better than most places I’ve stayed in Italy. Small thing, but you notice these details when you’re traveling.

The location is what really makes this place special, though. You’re positioned perfectly to explore both the university quarter and the main historic sites without feeling like you’re in the thick of tourist chaos. Via del Pratello with all its bars and late-night energy is just a short walk away, but you won’t hear any of that noise from your room. I loved being able to walk to Osteria del Sole for lunch – it’s this incredible old tavern where you bring your own food and they provide the wine and atmosphere. Try doing that from one of those generic hotels near the train station. The staff at Memo actually knows the neighborhood too, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case. They’ll point you toward the good aperitivo spots that locals frequent, not just the obvious tourist traps. With a 9.5 rating, you’d expect everything to be perfect, and while it’s pretty close, what impressed me most was how genuine the whole experience felt – like they’re running a place they’d actually want to stay at themselves.

  The apartment is in a great, quiet location. 10 minutes walk to the center, 5 minutes to the train station, which is very convenient if you plan to travel to other cities. The apartment is perfectly clean and very cozy.Frederico was always in touch and very helpful.
