Meditur Hotel Bologna Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Meditur Hotel Bologna? It’s actually tucked away on Via Emilia in San Lazzaro – not right in the city center like I initially thought when I booked. But honestly, this turned out to be one of those happy accidents that makes a trip memorable. The location is about 15 minutes from Bologna’s historic core, which means you’re close enough to hit Piazza Maggiore for aperitivo but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the tourist crowds stumbling back from dinner at midnight.
The hotel itself has this clean, modern vibe that feels refreshingly straightforward after you’ve been wandering around Bologna’s medieval streets all day. I mean, don’t get me wrong – I love the old architecture in the city center, but there’s something to be said for a place where the shower actually has decent water pressure and the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star property, though I’d definitely request something on the upper floors if you can – the street-facing rooms can pick up some traffic noise from Via Emilia, especially during morning rush hour. The beds are comfortable enough that I actually slept in past 8 AM (which never happens when I travel), and the air conditioning works properly, which you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting during those sweltering summer months when Bologna turns into a bit of an oven.
What really sold me on this place was how it strikes that perfect balance between being professional without feeling stuffy. The staff genuinely seemed to know the area – not just the obvious tourist spots, but useful stuff like which pharmacy stays open late and where to catch the bus to the airport without having to transfer three times. They pointed me toward this little osteria about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in the city. The breakfast spread is solid too, though nothing revolutionary – good coffee (important in Italy, obviously), fresh pastries, and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying for several days. Plus, there’s actual parking available, which is honestly worth its weight in gold if you’re planning to drive around Emilia-Romagna and explore some of the smaller towns nearby. All in all, it’s the kind of place that just works – no major surprises, but no disappointments either, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you want to focus on exploring rather than dealing with hotel drama.

The huge garden, the elegant spaces of the ancient villa the hotel is in, the large terrace, the very kind staff
What could be improved: No possibility to have a light dinner after a late check in , the crowded breakfast roomGreat value for the money you pay. – Jaks from United Kingdom – 6 January 2025 (9/10)
I liked the combination of the old style mixed with modern and it had a beautiful garden. I was also very impressed by wide breakfast selection and I would come back for warm pistachio croissants! Staff was very professional too.

What could be improved: Not a problem for us, but bear in mind that you will probably need a car to reach the center of Bologna.Great choice, great position. – Riccardo from Austria – 27 December 2023 (8/10)
Very good value for money. Really tidy, staff very kind and superb breakfast.
Great stay at nice hotel but far from Bologna Centre – Jordana from Canada – 10 December 2023 (9/10)
Beautiful hotel and conference centre with clean, well furnished rooms, free parking and a good breakfast included. They've definitely done some modernizing of the furniture and decor over the years.
What could be improved: Location is quite far from city centre so you would need to drive 25 minutes into Bologna. There are restaurants nearby for dinner but you'll need a vehicle.Very good – Stefanos from Germany – 5 September 2023 (8/10)
In a quiet location but close to Bologna, offers tranquil environment and comfy old flair rooms. Overall a nice stay!
What could be improved: Since our check out was early, the lady at the front desk promised us (as we checked in and told her) that a cappuccino and a small snack would be available to us, since we would be skipping the already paid for breakfast. But the next day there was a man at the front desk who apparently was not informed and obviously annoyed that he had to make us coffee. He gave us two espressos and as my wife asked for a bit of milk he replied kind of rudely and abruptly that he is no barista. It just left a bitter taste to our otherwise lovely stay.
