La Soffitta sits on this quiet residential street in Bologna that honestly feels more like a neighborhood secret than a hotel location. Via Alessandro Tiarini isn’t one of those tourist-packed areas – you’re actually in a proper Italian residential zone where locals walk their dogs and kids play in the small piazzas. I mean, it’s about a 15-minute walk to the centro storico, but that’s exactly why it works so well.

The building itself has that understated Italian elegance thing going on – not flashy, just solid and well-maintained in a way that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than some corporate chain. The rooms have this interesting mix of modern comfort with little touches that actually matter, like proper reading lights (you know how rare that is?) and windows that open wide enough to let in the morning sounds of the neighborhood. What really got me was how quiet it stays at night – even though you’re still in the city, this particular street seems to buffer most of the traffic noise. The staff genuinely knows their stuff about Bologna too, which honestly makes such a difference. They’ll tell you about the little osteria three blocks over that doesn’t have a sign, or mention that the market on Via Ugo Bassi is way better on Thursday mornings than weekends.

Here’s what I really appreciated – the whole experience feels effortless without being sterile. Check-in was smooth, the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, and there’s this nice courtyard area where you can sit with morning coffee and watch the city wake up. The breakfast setup is solid Italian fare, not some international buffet trying to please everyone and failing. You’re close enough to walk to San Petronio or climb the Asinelli tower when you feel like doing the tourist thing, but far enough away that you can escape back to this calmer pocket when the crowds get overwhelming. Plus – and this matters more than people think – parking is actually manageable in this area if you’re driving, which is basically a miracle in Bologna. The whole place just has this relaxed confidence that comes from knowing exactly what it is: a really well-run hotel that happens to be perfectly positioned for people who want to experience Bologna like they live there, not just visit.

  Loretta was the perfect host, providing very clear and helpful directions right from the station up to checking in/accessing keys.
  The apartment was spotlessly clean, so well equipped….and very importantly…. with a very comfy bed and super powerful lovely shower.
  
  Loretta had gone the extra mile and left toiletries and bottles of cold water in the fridge – so kind and thoughtful given how hot it is. She is also available and very helpful very quickly on WhatsApp for any questions you may have.
  
  It is a very straightforward (and straight line 😊) walk into the historic centre …. allow 20-25 mins. Pop in for a lovely coffee and cornetto to the cafe bar downstairs, to set yourself up for a great day exploring the beautiful Bologna.

  Loretta provided easy instructions to get to the property from the train station. She also checked with us the next day to make sure everything was okay. Place was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. It had all the facilities we required.

  The studio is very clean and has all the amenities needed. It is close to Bologna Centrale train station and about 15 min walk to the city center. The host was very responsive and helpful.

  Fantastic place to stay. Felt very homely. Lovely Mrs Susy greeted us and showed us everything. Even though she couldn’t speak English she communicated well and used google translate when needed.
