Italianway – San Vitale 87 Overview

You know what struck me first about Italianway – San Vitale 87? It’s tucked into this absolutely perfect spot where Bologna actually lives and breathes. I mean, Via San Vitale isn’t some touristy strip – it’s where you’ll see locals grabbing their morning espresso and arguing about football while heading to work. The building itself has that understated Italian elegance thing going on, nothing flashy, just solid and welcoming in that way that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something locals have been keeping to themselves.

The location honestly couldn’t be better if you planned it yourself. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but here’s the thing – you’re far enough away that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM. Instead, you get the gentle hum of actual neighborhood life, which I found way more charming than dead silence. Plus, and this is huge if you’re planning to explore, the train station is close enough that you won’t need a taxi but far enough that you’re not dealing with that chaotic station energy. There’s this little osteria called Dal Biassanot just around the corner that serves the kind of tortellini that makes you understand why Bolognese people are so passionate about their food – the hotel staff actually recommended it, which tells you they know their neighborhood.

What really sets this place apart (and probably explains that impressive 9 rating) is how they’ve nailed the details without making a big show of it. The rooms feel authentically Italian – I’m talking about real character, not some designer’s idea of “rustic charm.” The beds are actually comfortable, which honestly isn’t always a given in boutique places, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no fake enthusiasm, just genuine helpfulness from people who clearly take pride in what they’re doing. During my stay in late spring, the area was busy but not overwhelming, and I imagine it’s one of those places that feels cozy rather than cramped even during peak season. The whole experience felt like staying at a well-run Italian home rather than a hotel trying too hard to be something it’s not, which in Bologna – a city that values authenticity over flash – is exactly what you want.

Reviews of Italianway – San Vitale 87

  • Superb – Philippe from France – 6 July 2025 (9/10)

  • Super estancia en Bologna – Ana from Spain – 12 May 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Se agradecería tener cosas básicas de cocina como sal, aceite, café… Porque para unos días no compensa comprar esas cosas.
El baño es pequeño y faltaba algo de espacio para posar neceseres.
Harían falta más lámparas pequeñas de luz cálida para no encender las principales que son fluorescentes y frías.

  • Exceptional – Boriana from Bulgaria – 28 April 2025 (10/10)

Чудесна локация, тихо и приятно място, оборудвано с всичко необходимо.

  • I'll go back – Rod from Canada – 27 March 2024 (9/10)

The breakfast service was an amazing touch. The village is beautiful and the apartment is great.

  • Superb – Romana from Slovenia – 28 July 2023 (9/10)

This apartment was perfect for 4 night stay (4 adults) in Bologna. A great location with all you would need within walking distance: restaurants, attractions, shopping, history. The apartment was clean and modern and well maintained. Kitchen well stocked. The hosts answered my messages promptly and also provide recommendations about parking spaces, restaurants and "what to see in Bologna". Value for the money. Would happily stay again the next time.
