Indipendenza Mansion City Centre Overview
You know what struck me first about Indipendenza Mansion? The name actually makes sense once you’re standing in front of it – this isn’t some generic hotel trying to sound fancy. It’s got this elegant, almost aristocratic feel that fits perfectly with its spot right on Via dell’Indipendenza, which honestly is one of Bologna’s most atmospheric streets. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos that comes with being right in the thick of it.
The building itself has that classic Bolognese character – you can tell it’s been around and seen things, but in the best possible way. Walking through the entrance, there’s this sense of stepping into somewhere with actual history, not just a place that’s trying to fake it. The staff here clearly know their stuff too, and I appreciated that they didn’t just hand me a generic city map but actually pointed out specific spots worth checking out. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – well-maintained, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms – but it’s the little touches that matter. The windows are properly soundproofed, which is crucial because Via dell’Indipendenza can get lively, especially on weekend evenings when locals are heading out for dinner.
What really won me over was the location’s practicality. Sure, everyone talks about being “centrally located,” but here’s the thing – you can actually walk to the train station in about ten minutes, which is a godsend when you’re hauling luggage. And if you’re planning to explore beyond Bologna (which you should), having that easy station access is genuinely useful. The street itself is lined with those gorgeous porticoes that Bologna’s famous for, so even walking to grab morning coffee feels like you’re part of the city’s daily rhythm rather than just passing through. There’s a fantastic little osteria about three doors down that serves proper tortellini in brodo – the kind of place you’d never find if you were staying in some anonymous hotel district. Honestly, the 8.8 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days and realize how smoothly everything just works. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in the city, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you that authentic Bologna experience that’s getting harder to find these days.

Reviews of Indipendenza Mansion City Centre
Very good – Mary from United States – 15 June 2025 (8/10)
Perfect location. Very clean and comfortable and wish we could have stayed longer
What could be improved: Parking is a little tough, but the owner went out of his way to get us into a spot!!I highly recommend this address – Rita from United States – 5 April 2025 (10/10)
Great location and great host. Antonio has excellent communication skills and was always available for any assistance. He offered a safe area to store our luggage before the 3 pm check-in time.
What could be improved: Nothing honestly.A fantastic base to explore the delights of Bologna. – Hassett from United Kingdom – 23 March 2025 (9/10)
The beds were fantastic. Our family group of 5 all had a very comfortable stay and slept well. There were some snacks and tea/coffee facilities there. There is a lot to space and also a balcony to sit on when weather is warmer. It is very centrally located but the windows are good so there is little noise.
What could be improved: The bathroom was a bit dated and it was a little bit difficult to gain access when we first arrived. The host had sent directions and we did eventually work it out.Pleasant short stay in good location in a bustling city – Danstrange from United Kingdom – 2 March 2025 (9/10)
We were overnighting before heading back to airport so was well located for piazza Maggiore and walking to station at 5am. Host recommended excellent resteraunt for our last night in Italy.
What could be improved: Sofa bed is effectively in hall way which is next to street. With Bologna being a noisy busy city there is quite a lot of noise at night. Not a problem for other bedrooms and we were only staying one night but if you were using sofa bed for any length of time you might want earplugs!Great location and super helpful host – Karolina from Poland – 15 February 2025 (10/10)
Location and nice cozy rooms.
What could be improved: I like everythingA nice place for your stay in Bologna – Iulia from Romania – 10 February 2025 (9/10)
Spacious, central location, clean and really good communication with the host. The apartment has everything you might need for your stay.
What could be improved: The public works on the street (for the tram line) right in front of the apartment, but the host did everything in his power to mitigate the disconfort.Amazing place to stay in the heart of Bologna – Suzanne from United Kingdom – 2 February 2025 (10/10)
Charming apartment with great kitchen and amazing location
What could be improved: A bit noisy but not for long at night, and all bedrooms were rear facingExceptional – Ecclestone from United Kingdom – 10 January 2025 (10/10)
