Hotel San Felice Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel San Felice, you immediately notice how this three-star property punches above its weight. The lobby isn’t huge, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the way they’ve arranged everything — it feels more like stepping into a well-appointed Italian home than a typical hotel. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which honestly surprised me given how busy central Bologna gets during peak season. The attention to detail in every corner of the property reflects a commitment to guest comfort that extends far beyond what you’d typically expect at this price point.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s what you need to know about Via Riva Reno — you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but tucked away enough that you won’t hear the late-night crowds. I mean, you can grab morning coffee at one of those tiny local bars (the kind where regulars read newspapers and argue about football), then wander over to see the Neptune Fountain before most tourists even finish breakfast. The university quarter is right there too, so there’s this nice energy in the streets without feeling overwhelming. This positioning makes it ideal for travelers who want authentic Bologna without sacrificing accessibility to major attractions.

The Room Experience

My room was on the third floor — compact but thoughtfully designed, with that classic Italian attention to making small spaces work. The bed was actually comfortable (not always a given in this price range), and the bathroom had been recently updated. You know what I appreciated most? The windows that actually open, so you can hear the city waking up in the morning. The air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely need during Bologna’s sticky summers. Each room is equipped with modern amenities while maintaining the charm of the historic building.

Dining and Daily Rhythms

The breakfast setup is simple but solid — fresh pastries from a local bakery, decent coffee, and they’ll make you a proper cappuccino if you ask nicely. There isn’t a full restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re in Bologna — some of Italy’s best trattorias are within a two-block radius. The front desk staff knows which places are worth your time and which ones are tourist traps, and they’re not shy about sharing opinions. Their recommendations consistently lead guests to memorable dining experiences throughout the city.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. Couples especially seem to appreciate the intimate scale and the fact that you can actually explore Bologna on foot from here — no need for taxis or complicated transit. The combination of reasonable rates, genuine hospitality, and that prime location near the historic center creates exactly what you want from a Bologna stay. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out. The hotel’s dedication to personalized service ensures every guest feels genuinely valued and welcomed.

Early hotels booking in Bologna secures opera premieres, truffle fairs, and vintage Vespa tours rolling through the hills.

Reviews of Hotel San Felice

  • Nice hotel for a very short stay – Cristina from Romania – 20 June 2025 (8/10)

Nice, large room. Staff was kind and keen to help us. Waited for us at midnight, quickly checked us in.
Breakfast was ok, croissants and coffee.

What could be improved: The AC wasn’t as cool as expected .

  • Superb – Hanna from Belarus – 16 June 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is close to the station, 20 minutes walk, 15 minutes by bus, and not far from the historical center, the area is calm and more like a living area, not tourists, wich means calm. But still, there are some shops and restaurants nearby. The room is clean and quiet

What could be improved: The shower head needs some repair or change

  • Superb – Tim from United Kingdom – 26 May 2025 (9/10)

    Simple, comfortable rooms done well.

  • Perfect – Sophie from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

20mn walk from the train station and 15mn walk from the old town. Perfect for us.
Aircon in the room, 24h reception and very comfy bed.
Possibility to drop your bags earlier than check-in time.
    And breakfast was offered !

What could be improved: Bit noisy in the corridor, could do with a bit more sound proofing.
