You know what struck me first about Hotel Re Enzo? The address says Saragozza, but honestly, you’re practically in the heart of Bologna’s historic center – just a proper walk from all the action without the tourist chaos right outside your window. Via Santa Croce is one of those streets that feels authentically Bolognese, if that makes sense. You’ve got locals heading to the morning market, students from the university cutting through on bikes, and the kind of neighborhood bakery where the owner actually remembers your order.

The hotel itself has this refreshingly unpretentious vibe for a four-star place. I mean, sure, it’s polished and well-maintained, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about it rather than that sterile luxury hotel feeling. The rooms are thoughtfully designed – not huge by any means, but cleverly laid out so you’re not tripping over your suitcase every five minutes. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re close enough to walk to Piazza Maggiore in about fifteen minutes (I timed it). The staff actually knows Bologna, too – not just the obvious tourist spots, but they pointed me toward this incredible little osteria down near Via del Pratello that I never would have found otherwise.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it. The Saragozza area has character – real neighborhood restaurants where the menu changes based on what’s good that day, and you’re close enough to the university district that there’s always something interesting happening. Parking can be tricky around here (well, it’s Bologna, so parking is pretty much always tricky), but the hotel staff helped sort that out without any drama. I’d definitely come back – it’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a few days and actually get a feel for what Bologna is like beyond the postcards.

  The selection for breakfast was substantial. What I really liked (in comparison to our visit a year earlier) was that breakfast was served in the bar area which is well lit and has comfortable furniture, instead of the separate room in the back of the hotel which was rather non descriptive. Our room was very comfortable and there was very good water pressure when taking a shower. Please note that the shower is only 80cm wide, which some may find a little cramped.

  What could be improved: The location is some far from city center. I didn't like the breakfast, the croissants weren't fresh, the eggs weren't tasty. The staff in the restaurant were very nice.

  Location is very convinient as well as it has a garage next door. Most of the staff is very friendly and accomodating.
  
  What could be improved: After you leave reception you can quite soon see some wear and tear, that could be fixed for small investment ( touch of paint here in there, replace missing numbers on some doors etc.). Nothing major but would add quite bit of finess.
