Hotel Internazionale Overview
You know what? I’ve walked past Hotel Internazionale dozens of times on Via dell’Indipendenza without really noticing it – which, honestly, is sort of perfect for this place. It sits there quietly doing its thing while tourists rush past toward the train station or get distracted by all the shops leading up to Piazza Maggiore. But once you actually stay here, you realize it’s got this wonderful balance of being right in the thick of everything without feeling like you’re sleeping in Times Square.
The location is actually brilliant if you think about it. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Due Torri (those leaning towers everyone comes to see), but you’re also positioned perfectly for the stuff locals care about. There’s this fantastic little enoteca called Osteria del Sole just around the corner where you can bring your own food and buy their wine – very Bologna, very authentic. The morning routine becomes addictive: grab a proper cappuccino from the bar downstairs, then wander up toward the university district where the portici start getting really spectacular. Speaking of which, the hotel sits right under those famous covered walkways, so even when it’s pouring rain (which happens more than you’d expect), you can walk practically anywhere in the historic center without getting soaked.
What surprised me most was how the staff actually knows the neighborhood. I mean, not just the obvious tourist stuff, but real recommendations. They pointed me toward this incredible tortellini place on Via Drapperie that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned wanting to see some local music, they knew exactly which osteria had live jazz on Tuesday nights. The rooms themselves are solid four-star territory – nothing revolutionary, but the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms work properly, and there’s decent soundproofing considering you’re on one of the main drags. Actually, that’s worth mentioning: Via dell’Indipendenza can get busy during the day, but it quiets down surprisingly well at night. The double-glazed windows help, and honestly, after a day of walking around those medieval streets and eating way too much ragu, you’ll sleep through anything anyway.
The breakfast situation is better than expected too – they do that Italian hotel thing where it’s not huge, but everything they have is actually good. Real prosciutto, proper mozzarella, decent coffee. You can sit there planning your day while watching the city wake up outside, which beats eating in some windowless hotel basement. Check-in was smooth, parking is available nearby (not cheap, but this is Bologna’s city center, so what do you expect?), and the whole experience just felt… comfortable. Like staying at a well-run place that’s been figuring out how to make travelers happy for years without making a big show of it.

Reviews of Hotel Internazionale
Good – Diana from United Kingdom – 17 July 2025 (7/10)
Good location
What could be improved: Quite dated hotel. Beds and bedding wasn’t very comfortable.Fairly upmarket hotel in good spot for Bologna town centre and station. – Easycruising from Switzerland – 16 July 2025 (9/10)
Nice, Italian style hotel near to town and railway station.
Room good size.
Staff very polite and helpful.Great location. Hotel has an aged charm to it that far outweighs other modern minimalist options.. – Mark from United Kingdom – 14 July 2025 (9/10)
Great location to reach on foot from the train station. Very helpful check in staff. Comfy good sized room and facilities. East way to local bars, restaurants and further into town.
An excellent, comfortable and relaxing experience. – Michael from United Kingdom – 13 July 2025 (9/10)
The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Air conditioning was very quiet and overall well equipped ( fridge, hair dryer etc ). Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, they also spoke very good English.
What could be improved: Only slight issue was the positioning of the WC next to the wash basin was a bit tight and made sitting on the toilet a bit of a twisted affair for me as a tall guy.Superb – Assaf from Israel – 11 July 2025 (9/10)
The staff were super nice, the room comfortable and felt adequately big.
They figured out we had a birthday during our stay and gave us a complementary bottle of proseco.
What could be improved: Water pressure was a bit on the low sideGreat location and comfortable room – Holly-anne from United Kingdom – 10 July 2025 (7/10)
The location was perfectly positioned between the railway station and city centre, meaning everything was walkable. The room and bathroom was both a good size. The bed was big and comfortable.
What could be improved: The air conditioning was not sufficient for the heat. It was 36c when we were there and it took a few hours to be able to cool down over night.Very good – Succi from United States – 8 July 2025 (8/10)
Great location, walkable from the train station. The center of town is about 10-15 minutes on foot.
Staff is friendly and professional.Would visit again – Karianne from Norway – 7 July 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: Nothing not to like. But would have appreciated å pair of slippers in the room.Super convenient and comfortable stay with excellent breakfast – Louise from United Kingdom – 3 July 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: The shower was functional but needed a little attentionComfortable stay in a well run hotel. – Peter from United Kingdom – 1 July 2025 (8/10)
Large corner room with loads of space and floor to ceiling windows.
Pleasant staff.
Good location.
What could be improved: The decor was not entirely to my taste or style, but that’s personal choice.
