The address itself – Via De’ Giudei translates to “Street of the Jews,” and you’re literally staying in what used to be Bologna’s medieval Jewish quarter. I mean, how’s that for location with character? The building sits tucked away in this narrow cobblestone street that most tourists probably walk right past, but honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well.

The suites themselves are pretty impressive – definitely earning that 4-star rating, though I’d say they feel more intimate than your typical hotel setup. Each one’s got this apartment-style layout that actually makes sense for Bologna, where you’ll want to grab some mortadella and Parmigiano from Mercato delle Erbe (literally a 5-minute walk) and have a proper picnic setup in your room. The decor strikes this nice balance between historical touches and modern comfort – exposed brick here and there, but thank god they’ve got proper air conditioning because Bologna in summer is… well, let’s just say you’ll appreciate it. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too, which matters when you’re dealing with those old building constraints.

What really sells this place though is how perfectly positioned it is for actually experiencing Bologna rather than just visiting it. You can stumble out the door and be at Piazza Maggiore in maybe 3 minutes – I timed it one morning grabbing coffee. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: you’re also right in the heart of the university area, so there’s this great energy around dinnertime when all the students are heading to the osterie. The street itself stays pretty quiet at night (those thick medieval walls help), but you’re close enough to the action that you can easily wander over to Via del Pratello when you want that proper Bologna nightlife experience. Parking’s going to be a headache if you’re driving – this is old town Bologna, after all – but the train station’s walkable, and honestly, once you’re here, you won’t need a car anyway. The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me; it’s one of those places that just gets the details right without trying too hard to impress you.

  What could be improved: Saturday night we could not get to sleep as we could hear the bass, music and revelry until the wee hours from the bar/club across the street. Otherwise it was a great stay. Bring some ear plugs for the street noise
