HomeLame 57 Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first saw “HomeLame 57” I thought there was some kind of typo situation happening. But here’s the thing about Bologna: this city doesn’t mess around with pretentious hotel names, and neither does this place. It’s tucked right into Via delle Lame, which actually translates to “street of blades” (medieval sword-making history, if you’re curious), and it’s one of those spots that perfectly captures what I love about staying in Bologna’s centro storico.
The hotel itself feels like someone took a traditional Bolognese building and gave it just enough modern touches without losing its soul. You know what I mean? The lobby has these gorgeous original stone details, but the Wi-Fi actually works and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a freight train. I stayed here during that brutal August heat wave last summer, and honestly, walking into that cool, marble-floored entrance after wandering around the Quadrilatero markets all morning was pure relief. The staff – and this matters more than people think – they’re not just polite, they’re genuinely helpful. The guy at reception actually drew me a little map showing which osteria nearby does the best tortellini in brodo, and he was absolutely right.
What really sold me on this place though is the location. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re on this quieter street that doesn’t get the tourist crowds stumbling back from aperitivo at 2 AM. The rooms face an internal courtyard mostly, so it’s actually peaceful – something you can’t take for granted in the city center. And here’s a detail that’ll matter if you’re planning to explore: you’re right between the university quarter and the main shopping area, so whether you want to grab morning coffee with students at Caffè Terzi or browse the vintage shops on Via del Pratello, everything’s walkable. The 9.1 rating makes sense once you’ve been there – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it gets all the important stuff right. Good bed, solid shower pressure, and that intangible feeling that you’re staying somewhere that actually belongs in Bologna, not some generic hotel that could be anywhere. Plus, if you’re driving, they’ve got a partnership with a parking garage nearby, which honestly might be worth the stay alone if you’ve ever tried to park in Bologna’s medieval street maze.

What could be improved: NothingGreat place, great city, great hosts! – Paul from Canada – 7 June 2025 (9/10)
The host was very accommodating and welcomed us on our arrival. We could only stay for two days as a rail strike affected our time in Bologna. Alberto provided great information for us on restaurants and things to see in the city. Both he and Simona were great and the place was spotless. Could have spent another 3-days easily in this unit and in the city.
What could be improved: Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time in the city. So, I think had we spent more time, we would have been able to navigate our way around better and of course see (and eat) more.Bologna: interesting city and a good starting point to discover the surrounding cities. – Artur from Poland – 4 June 2025 (10/10)
Mrs. host very nice and helpful (flexible on check out time), very communicative. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. Apartment with windows overlooking the city park – despite the heavy traffic, you can not hear the traffic in the apartment. Very successful stay.
Exceptional – Dejphinun from Thailand – 30 May 2025 (10/10)
Our host is very kind. The apartment is close to restaurant and grocery store. Place of interest and train staton is within walking distance. The apartment is facing the public park and quiet.
We have everything we need.Exceptional – Marcus from Australia – 23 April 2025 (10/10)
Simona was a lovely host. Great location with a lovely Cafe 50 metres up the road. Simona spoke excellent English and was easy to communicate with. We even got to get several loads of washing done after travelling for 10 days without doing any laundry. Grazie Simona.
What could be improved: Not at all the fault of the property owner, but the park next door had loud DJ music, but that stopped about 10:30pmFabulous Bologna. Apartment excellently located next to bars and restaurants. Host a delight and ready to help if requir – Kerry from United Kingdom – 11 February 2025 (8/10)
Property recently furnished and newly painted. Very clean. Very well appointed apartment. Little touches to get us started in the flat such as body wash and toilet rolls and plenty of towels, extra blankets. We didn’t have anything missing. Kitchen had plenty of utensils and dishes.
Access to the property is very easy, lift is handy and easy to use.
The location of this apartment is a strong advantage only 10 minutes walk to the statue of Neptune.
Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants in its vicinity.
Our host was very friendly, warm and ready to help when we needed to book a taxi.
What could be improved: To enhance the double bedroom perhaps a mirror is the only thing we could suggest.Exceptional – Elisabeth from Germany – 6 January 2025 (10/10)
Very clean, warm and cozy, very happy about that because we came in the winter.
Lovely clean apartment with friendly hosts! – Miroslava from Bulgaria – 5 December 2024 (10/10)
Beautiful apartment, hospitable hosts! Very clean and spacious apartment with all the amenities in it! I highly recommend it and would stay there again!
What could be improved: Everything was wonderful, except that the temperature in the apartment was 21 degrees everywhere, and I'm used to higher temperatures and the first day we were a little cold. It could have been from the trip and getting up early.Home Lame 57 – Claire from Ireland – 14 October 2024 (10/10)
The host Simona was very helpful & allowed us to check in early & check out late. She gave us some good tips as to where to eat & the attractions we should see. The location of the apartment is ideal, there's a fantastic Pam Local (Supermarket) literally 2 minutes away & we were in walking distance to the centre of Bologna. The apartment was spotlessly clean & had everything that we needed during our stay.
What could be improved: There was nothing that we didn't like. It suited our needs completely.
