Homeby, Due Agosto Apartment Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Bologna over the years, but Homeby’s Due Agosto apartment on Via Antonio di Vincenzo really got it right. You know what struck me first? The building itself – it’s tucked on this quiet residential street that most tourists never find, maybe a ten-minute walk from the university quarter. I mean, you’re close enough to hear the morning bustle from Via Zamboni when students are heading to lectures, but far enough that you actually sleep through the night without drunk twenty-somethings singing under your window at 2 AM.
The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home, not some sterile hotel room that’s been focus-grouped to death. There’s this worn leather chair by the window that I basically lived in for three days, perfect for morning coffee while watching the neighborhood wake up. The kitchen – and this is key if you’re planning to stay more than a night – actually has real cooking equipment. I’m talking about a proper stovetop, decent knives, the works. Bologna’s food scene is incredible, obviously, but sometimes you just want to grab some mortadella and parmigiano from the market down on Via Ugo Bassi and make yourself a simple lunch. The whole setup encourages that kind of slow travel, you know? The Wi-Fi was solid too, which matters if you’re trying to get any work done between wandering around the porticoes.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a while. The shower pressure is actually strong – I can’t tell you how many “charming” Italian apartments I’ve stayed in where the water barely trickles out. The bed is firm without being a torture device, and they’ve got these heavy curtains that block out the morning light completely if you need to sleep in. There’s even a little washing machine tucked away, which saved me from having to pack three weeks’ worth of clothes. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward waiting around in a tiny lobby while someone figures out where your reservation went.
Honestly, the location is what makes it special. You’re walking distance from Piazza Maggiore, sure, but you’re also right in the thick of actual Bologna life. There’s a fantastic osteria called Al Cambio just around the corner that serves the best tortellini in brodo I’ve had outside of someone’s nonna’s kitchen. The morning produce market at Mercato delle Erbe is maybe fifteen minutes on foot, and you’ll pass at least three excellent coffee bars along the way. If you’re into the whole university scene, you can wander over to Via del Pratello in the evenings where students gather for aperitivo – it’s got this energy that makes you remember why you fell in love with Italian cities in the first place. The whole experience feels less like staying in accommodation and more like temporarily living in Bologna, which is exactly what you want from a place like this.
