GeTheKey Borgo Terrace Apartment Overview

You know what caught me off guard about GeTheKey Borgo Terrace Apartment? I was expecting some cramped conversion tucked away in Bologna’s historic center, but this place actually feels like someone’s stylish home that they happen to rent out. The terrace – and I mean a proper terrace, not just a glorified balcony – overlooks the neighborhood in a way that makes you feel like you’re getting the real Bologna experience without the tourist circus of the main piazzas.

The location on Via del Borgo di San Pietro is honestly perfect if you know Bologna at all. You’re close enough to walk to Piazza Maggiore in about fifteen minutes (though honestly, who times these things when you’re wandering through those gorgeous porticoes?), but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the late-night revelry from the university crowd. The street itself has this lived-in Italian neighborhood vibe – there’s a little alimentari around the corner where the owner remembers your face after two visits, and you’ll hear actual conversations in Italian from the apartments above, not just tourist chatter. I mean, the apartment itself has that comfortable, unfussy elegance that good Italian hospitality does so well. The furnishings feel curated but not precious, and the kitchen is actually functional – I’m talking real pots and pans, not those sad hotel kitchenette offerings. The terrace becomes your evening ritual spot; I found myself grabbing wine from that enoteca down the street and just watching the neighborhood wind down. Fair warning though – Bologna gets properly hot in summer, and while the apartment stays cool, you’ll want to time your terrace sessions for early morning or after sunset.

What really sets this place apart is how it handles the balance between independence and support. Check-in was smooth (they actually communicate clearly about timing, which – let’s be honest – doesn’t always happen with apartment rentals), and when I had a minor question about the heating, someone responded within the hour. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be a luxury hotel experience, but it delivers exactly what it promises with genuine warmth. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Bologna rather than just visiting, and you appreciate having your own space to retreat to after a day of wandering the city’s incredible food scene, this apartment gets it right. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned to explore beyond the centro storico – the Navile district is a quick bike ride away, and honestly, some of the best meals I had were in the neighborhoods most visitors never see.

Reviews of GeTheKey Borgo Terrace Apartment

  • The area smells like urine (bars ) – John-eloy from Aruba – 15 June 2025 (8/10)

    Location

What could be improved: Lack of pillows

  • Style and atmosphere. I really loved this appartment! Great location and great deco! Perfect house to relax, feel like h – Academy from Greece – 4 June 2025 (10/10)

The architecture, the style and the decoration. The location also.

What could be improved: The only thing that i missed is the morning coffee. There is no espresso machine. Waterproof mattress protectors and new duvet covers also.

  • Good – Dominika from Poland – 1 May 2025 (7/10)

The location of the apartment is its biggest asset! It was perfect to get the feel of the city, everything was in walking distance (commerce, train station) so it was very convenient! 11/10!

What could be improved: The apartment overall has a bit used feel, would be great to freshen it up a bit (refresh the paint, maybe better terrace set, the current one is a bit wobbly, oil the cabinet doors)

  • Good – David from Sweden – 5 March 2025 (7/10)

    Balcony

What could be improved: Thin bed mattress, noisy water boiler next to bed

  • Ideally located and spacious apartment in central Bologna – Susan from United Kingdom – 26 November 2024 (9/10)

Location great though a bit noisy some nights as bars etc closeby. Easy walking distance to the main attractions. Checking in was easy. Liked the layout of the apartment. Spacious and warm. Staff very communicative, friendly and helpful

What could be improved: The downstairs bedroom was very cold and dark as there was no main light. Some of the kitchen equipment was a bit dated. It would have been nice to have had a few recommendations in the manual about supermarket, times of opening, places to eat etc. Otherwise, manual was very useful.

  • Lovely apartment in great location – Sarah from Italy – 24 May 2024 (9/10)

The flat is in a great location, about 15 minutes walk from both the centre and the station and there are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area. The downstairs bedroom is spacious and has a double bed, large wardrobe area and there is a bathroom with a bath. The next floor has a well-equipped kitchen/living room area and there's even a stereo with a fantastic range of CDS. There is a lovely little terrace. There is another floor which is partly open to the kitchen, with a sofa bed. The apartment is comfortable and very clean. The apartment is ideal for 2 friends (3 or 4 if people don't mind sharing beds) or a couple.

What could be improved: Both the beds were quite uncomfortable but ok for a couple of nights. There are no curtains or blinds on the terrace windows so light comes in quite early which might disturb anyone sleeping on the sofa bed. Due to the bars in the area, the downstairs bedroom is a bit noisy at night, but it didn't really bother us. The rubbish collection system is a bit complicated-you need to use a swipe card, provided by the apartment, to open some of the bins. You therefore need to be quite organised taking out the rubbish since the card needs to be left in the apartment when you check-out. These are not really complaints, just things that could be improved.

  • Very good – Krzysztof from Poland – 7 May 2024 (8/10)

We liked the stay very much. The appartment is very spacious, clean and well furnished. Location is just great, close to cafes and trattorias. At the same time you avoid downtown crowds. Friday and Satuday night can be bit noisy as the students party directly on the street (it did not disturb us at all).

What could be improved: Some equipment and furniture is a bit worn out. Also the terrace could be a little bit cleaner and furniture in a better shape.

  • The apartment needs a good cleaning. – Eronida from North Macedonia – 29 April 2024 (6/10)

    The location was great.

What could be improved: It was not clean, unfortunately.

  • It’s great, but deep clean need it! – Daria from Ireland – 31 October 2023 (7/10)

Excellent location, short walk from the center and main train station. Close to the supermarket too. Host lady extremely nice and helpful. Apartment was very spacious and perfect for two couples that wanted to spend the time together but also have a little of privacy. There were three levels, bedroom with bathroom downstairs, kitchen and dining room with terrace and second bathroom on the first floor and another bedroom up from there. Terrace had a pull out roof so we could still seat on it when rained a little. Downstairs bed extremely comfy, water in the bathrooms always warm and with good pressure. Wi-Fi worked fine too.

What could be improved: First of all, apartment was dirty 🙁 Dust, cobwebs, dirty dishes in the kitchen press. Our bed sheets were clean, but duvets that we found in the utility didn’t look fresh and had no covers. Downstairs bedroom was furnished with old, little creepy pieces. Upstairs bedroom had very uncomfortable bed and not one piece of furniture were clothes could be unpacked. Only three, very worn out chairs on the terrace. Apartment was a little loud in the night as there were busy cafes underneath. Because of its layout, apartment is not great for the families with smaller kids – two sets of sharp steps. Fridge freezer had built frost so it froze our food one day.

  • Superb – Alastair from United Kingdom – 13 August 2023 (9/10)

great location, had all we needed , everything is so close by,
hosts were really helpful when meeting us , and helped us very quickly on departure when i left a bag in the room without keys.

What could be improved: the internal staircase to get to the apartment has no natural light .
there is an "automatic light" which comes on when going down , but not when going up the stairs , so you need to remember to have a torch to hand.
