You know what struck me first about Fossalta Home? It’s actually *in* the historical center – not “near” it like most places claim. Walking out the front door on Via Fossalta, you’re literally surrounded by those narrow medieval streets that make Bologna feel like a living museum. I mean, the address says it all: you’re at number 1 on the street, which honestly feels pretty symbolic when you’re staying somewhere this central.

The building itself has that solid, understated elegance that Bologna does so well – none of the flashy stuff you get in tourist traps, just good bones and smart updates. The 4-star rating feels right; they’ve clearly put thought into the details without going overboard. Check-in was smooth (always a relief when you’re dragging luggage through cobblestone streets), and the staff actually knew the neighborhood well enough to give real recommendations. Not just “go to the main piazza” but specific little enotecas and the bakery that locals hit up for morning cornetti.

What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night, despite being so central. Bologna’s historical center has this wonderful rhythm – lively during the day with all the university students and locals doing their shopping, then it settles into this peaceful evening vibe where you mainly hear footsteps echoing off the old stones. The rooms face the street, but honestly, the thick walls do their job. I slept better here than at some countryside hotels, if I’m being honest. The 8.6 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything works exactly as it should. Little touches like decent water pressure (crucial after walking around all day) and windows that actually open properly for fresh air. You’re a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but more importantly, you’re right in the mix of daily Bolognese life – the kind of spot where you start recognizing the same faces at the local bars and begin to feel like you’re living there rather than just passing through.

  We stayed here for 6 nights recently. We cannot recommend it highly enough, the apartment is stunning, lovely old building and the design of the apartment fits right in. We loved it, from the fab little TV area to the lovely rooms to the comfy beds! But the icing on the cake is the private terrace! Was so lovely to sit out there and have breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening, it's such a bonus to have something like that, especially in the centre of Bologna, even in not so hot weather it was still lovely to have. We've been going to Bologna for many years now and stayed in so many different lovely hotels but this is by far the best accommodation we've ever had. It's so central, it couldn't be nearer to the main square! So handy! We loved every minute of staying here and can't wait to go back again! The owner was also so lovely to deal with from when we booked to when we left, very helpful and friendly. If you're looking for lovely, central accommodation in Bologna you can't do better than this!

  We loved everything about Fossalta Home. Its location is perfect. The kitchen was small but fine for our purposes (my 16 year son and me). The bedrooms were very comfortable, and the entire apartment was well appointed (great antiques!). We liked the funky layout. Having a washing machine was a plus. Best for a couple or a couple with one other person.
  
  What could be improved: We liked everything about the property. Note that the terrace is on a lower floor and lots of apartments look out onto/into the terrace. It is not high up with views.

  The property was so well located for sightseeing and meant we could pop back with ease.
  The apartment has everything and was well appointed with a quirky feel to it in terms of lay out and decor. The bathroom and bedroom were perfect and the bed was way too comfy.
  The host was easily contactable via What's App which was reassuring. There were city guides and a very well thought out guest info booklet. We tried several of the restaurant recommendations and they did not disappoint.

  We had a great stay in this apartment! The location was perfect for all of the sites, restaurants, grocery stores, and transportation. We arrived in Bologna during a heat wave and the air conditioning kept us very comfortable. The apartment itself is very comfortable to stay in. The private outside space, which we did not utilize very much because of the heat, was fantastic.
  
  What could be improved: A toaster, instead of a toaster oven would have been nice. Also, a freezer for ice. Not that it was a problem for us but you do need access to the internet, on your phone, to enter the building and the apartment.
