Falcone 22 Overview

So I stumbled across Falcone 22 during my last trip to Bologna, and honestly? It’s one of those places that gets everything right without trying too hard. The name comes from the street it’s on – Vicolo del Falcone – which is this narrow little alley that most tourists probably walk right past. But that’s exactly what makes it perfect, you know? You’re literally a two-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but tucked away enough that you don’t have crowds of people dragging suitcases past your window at 6 AM.

The building itself has that classic Bologna charm – you can tell it’s been around forever but they’ve done the renovations thoughtfully. I mean, the lobby isn’t huge or flashy, but there’s something really satisfying about the way they’ve kept the original architectural details while making everything feel modern and clean. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re trying to figure out where to grab the best tortellini (they’ll point you toward Osteria del Sole, by the way – thank me later). What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night. Bologna’s centro storico can get pretty lively, especially on weekends, but this little street stays peaceful. The rooms are well-insulated too, so even if there is some noise from the main pedestrian areas, you won’t hear it.

The rooms themselves are exactly what you’d want – not massive, but smartly designed with good lighting and comfortable beds. They’ve got that European efficiency thing down where everything has its place without feeling cramped. The bathrooms are actually decent sized, which anyone who’s stayed in Italian city centers knows is basically a miracle. And here’s something I really appreciated – the air conditioning actually works properly. I was there in July and it was brutal outside, but the rooms stayed comfortable without that weird musty smell you sometimes get. The neighborhood is perfect for exploring on foot – you’ve got the university area just to the east, the markets and main shopping streets within easy walking distance, and some of the best bars and restaurants in Bologna right around the corner. Plus, if you need to catch a train or bus, you’re close enough to walk to the station with your luggage, which saves you from dealing with taxis in the narrow streets. Look, it’s not the fanciest place in Bologna, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re actually trying to experience the city rather than just passing through.

  The apartment was lovely, with a mezzanine bedroom, large kitchen/diner, bathroom and a balcony. A proper little home from home. Hostess Ilaria made us very welcome even though we were late arriving.
  I even managed to use the washing machine and dry clothes on the balcony.
  
  What could be improved: The distance from the railway station was a problem to start with so we took a taxi. We also tried a bus but this took just as long. After the second day we worked out the route on foot but it was all uphill so we needed a couple of stops for beer & paninis.

  Ilaria and Mark were very nice and explanatory!
  They gave us some directions and made our stay as pleasant as possible!
  The house was extremely clean, with all the necessary equipment, located in a quiet area but near the centre at the same time.
  I would definitely recommend it and will stay again on my next visit!!

  Location is very close to the downtown. Very quiet street with two great restaurants close by. Locals are very friendly and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was good save for two kitchen chairs that are very wobbly and so posing a fall danger.
  I would suggest the owner invest in new chairs to avoid injury to guests.

  Very clean apartment, everything you needed was supplied. Nice small outdoor terrace. One of the loveliest restaurants is just 2 minutes walk ( Al Sangiovese ) , would highly recommend booking a table if you stay at Falcone 22. The communication from the host was fantastic.
