You know what struck me first about Design Club Collection? The building itself – it’s this perfectly restored piece of Bologna that sits right where Via Nazario Sauro meets the more touristy center, but somehow feels like a local secret. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but the street has this quieter, more residential vibe that most visitors never discover.

The design lives up to the name, honestly. Someone clearly spent time thinking about every corner – there’s this mix of industrial touches and warm Italian materials that actually works instead of feeling forced. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings (typical Bologna) but the furniture is sleek and modern without being cold. What I really appreciated was the attention to practical stuff too – proper lighting for reading, decent shower pressure, and thick enough walls that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway. The beds are genuinely comfortable, which… well, you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in boutique places.

Location-wise, this is where it gets interesting. Via Nazario Sauro runs along what used to be the old city walls, so you get this sense of Bologna’s layers without being stuck in the middle of the evening aperitivo chaos around Piazza del Nettuno. There’s a fantastic little osteria called Osteria del Sole just around the corner – locals bring their own food and buy wine by the glass, very authentic Bologna experience. And if you’re into morning walks, the Giardini Margherita are close enough that you can actually get there before the day heats up. Parking is typical Bologna nightmare, but they’ll sort you out with directions to the nearest garage, and honestly, once you’re there you won’t need a car anyway.

The staff seems to actually know the city, which makes a difference. They pointed me toward a morning market on Via Drapperie that I never would have found otherwise, and when I asked about avoiding the tourist crowds at Santo Stefano, they gave me specific timing that was spot-on. Check-in was smooth – no artificial upselling, just genuine suggestions about what might interest you based on how long you’re staying. The breakfast situation is solid too, proper Italian coffee and local pastries, nothing fancy but done right.

What really won me over was how the place feels integrated into the neighborhood rather than dropped into it. You’ll see locals heading to work in the morning, smell actual cooking from nearby apartments, hear the city waking up in a way that feels real. The 8.5 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but it nails what it’s going for. If you want to feel like you’re staying in the city rather than just visiting it, and you appreciate good design without the pretension, this works really well. Just book early if you’re coming during university season – Bologna fills up fast when students are around.

  The location is great, a few walking minutes away from the center area – Piazza Maggiore. The apartment was very nice, new and clean. We had everything we needed, including breakfast delivered to our door if we ordered it the day before. Restaurants and coffee places nearby, a Coop at the end of the street 3 minutes away, farmacy 2 minutes away. Can't say anything bad about it as it was perfect.
