Central Elegant Apartment – Liberty House Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to 6 Via Urbana – honestly, the street entrance is pretty unassuming and you’d probably walk right past it if you weren’t looking for the address. But once you climb up to the first floor of this converted palazzo, the Central Elegant Apartment completely changes the game. The name actually fits, which is rare for Bologna rentals (trust me, I’ve seen some questionable “luxury” places here).

The apartment sits right in the heart of the university district, and I mean *right* in it – you’re literally a two-minute walk from Piazza Verdi where all the students hang out, and the medieval towers are so close you can practically touch them from some windows. What really got me though was how quiet it stays inside, even with all the student energy buzzing around outside. The building’s thick walls do their job, plus Via Urbana is one of those narrow side streets that doesn’t get much traffic beyond locals cutting through. During the day you’ll hear the occasional Vespa puttering by, but nights are surprisingly peaceful for being so central.

The space itself feels properly elegant without being stuffy – sort of like staying in someone’s really well-appointed city apartment rather than a sterile hotel room. The fixtures and finishes are actually modern (not that fake-antique stuff you see everywhere), and whoever designed it clearly knows Bologna since there’s proper storage space, good lighting for those darker winter months, and – this is key – decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every twenty minutes. The kitchen setup is legit too, which matters if you want to grab fresh stuff from Mercato di Mezzo just around the corner instead of eating out every meal. I mean, Bologna’s food scene is incredible, but sometimes you just want to make a simple breakfast with good coffee, you know?

Location-wise, you’re positioned perfectly for exploring without feeling like a tourist trapped in a bubble. The train station is an easy walk or quick bus ride, the main shopping areas along Via dell’Indipendenza are close enough but not so close that you’re dealing with crowds constantly, and – honestly this sold me – you can walk to most of the good aperitivo spots without needing to figure out Bologna’s somewhat confusing bus system. The gelato place on Via San Vitale (about five minutes away) alone makes the location worth it.

The 9.1 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed here – it’s one of those places that just works without any drama. Check-in was smooth, everything functioned properly, and the attention to detail shows throughout. It’s not trying too hard to be something it’s not, which I appreciate. If you’re looking for a proper base in Bologna that feels more like living in the city than just visiting it, this place delivers. Just book early during university season or when there are conferences in town, because word gets around about the good spots pretty quickly here.

Reviews of Central Elegant Apartment – Liberty House

  • Wonderful character apartment in central location, highly recommend, great value for money. – Emma from Australia – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

We had a fabulous stay in Bologna. The apartment has a wonderful character and is beautifully maintained and furnished. It was lovely to be in such a historic building in the old part of the city. The apartment is really convenient to bars, restaurants and a grocery store. Easy 5 minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, the main square in the city. Our host was very helpful with restaurant recommendations. We were 2 couples sharing the apartment and it worked well to each have our own bathrooms. Highly recommend, great value for money.

  • Memorable apartment in the heart of Bologna. Unique, charming and tastefully decorated. – Catherine from United States – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

Great location. Walkable to the main city square with lots of nearby shopping and restaurants. We arrived by train and then took a taxi to the guest house, as it would be a 25 minute walk from the train station (would definitely recommend taking a taxi or public transport to the apartment). Leonardo gave us a door code and a lock box with key to enter the property. He was available by text and also provided a book in the guest house with details about the history of the home, operations of the home, restaurants and things to do. There was a washing machine which was helpful. We dried our clothes on the drying rack at the apartment There were two nice bedrooms and two separate bathrooms. There was a lovely sitting room and well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed eating outside at the outdoor patio. The apartment was tastefully decorated and very different from a cookie-cutter hotel. There is a WOW factor to this place.

What could be improved: Although we were a floor above the street, you could hear the traffic. You might want to bring earplugs if you are sensitive to night time sounds. However, since the apartment is located in a large city, traffic is to be expected. We stayed over when the Bologna football club beat Milan for the championship. There were lots of cars and scooters honking horns late at night to celebrate the win. A night to be remembered 🙂

  • Superb – David from United Kingdom – 7 May 2025 (9/10)

The apartment was lovely the rooms were of a good size and location very good

What could be improved: It was noisy in the night from traffic

  • Very good – Mark from Australia – 30 January 2025 (8/10)

Location was great – a short walk to Piazza Maggiore, atmospheric local bars and cafes near by. The local information file was very useful. It is something most often missing in private tourist accommodation. The house is lovely with many authentic features which make you feel that you are staying somewhere special.

What could be improved: Lighting is terrible. Need some brighter globes or more lamps (with bright globes)

  • I don’t think you could find better in all of Bologna – Sam from United Kingdom – 29 November 2024 (9/10)

Stunning interiors, plenty of space and excellent location. Host was extremely helpful.

What could be improved: The kitchen was a bit cramped.

  • Exceptional – Jennifer from United States – 29 October 2024 (10/10)

    Huge space, very comfortable.

  • Great apartment in historic Bologna. – Alanna from Canada – 22 June 2024 (9/10)

Great apartment in historic Bologna. Loved that the apartment has been in the same family for decades. Very large and comfortable!

What could be improved: The air conditioning is units you need to put a tube out of the window. But this means the very large windows remain open. It gets quite hot but the fans can help a little.

  • A gem of an apartment in the centre of Bologna – Laura from Netherlands – 28 March 2024 (10/10)

Such a wonderful, elegant and spacious apartment in the centre of beautiful Bologna. We had a wonderful time and would love to come back.

The host was so nice and helpful. He even allowed us to leave our luggage in the apartment for longer than planned on check-out day. This meant we could enjoy Bologna a little longer without having to carry big bags.

I would strongly recommend staying at this apartment if you are planning a trip to Bologna 🙂

  • Gorgeous large apartment in a wonderful city. – Mel from United Arab Emirates – 14 October 2023 (10/10)

This was absolutely beautiful. The apartment is large, beautiful period features, nice and safe location. Outdoor terrace, cooking facilities, two bathrooms.

What could be improved: The only shame is that we didn’t stay more nights.

  • Awe inspiring and so comfy and room. We all felt like royalty. Great location. go go go! XXXX – Lucy from United Kingdom – 2 September 2023 (10/10)

Utterly blissful. So atmospheric, beautiful, from the tiles to the gilt gold. Faded grandeur (in the best way!) with all you need in a n impeccable location with a bar/coffee shop opposite.
