Anais’ Loft- OSP. SANT’ORSOLA-FIERA Overview

You know what really struck me about Anais’ Loft when I first walked in? It doesn’t feel like a typical Bologna hotel at all – and I mean that in the best way possible. The place sits right on Via Sante Vincenzi, which honestly sounds more intimidating on paper than it actually is. It’s this quiet residential street that somehow puts you within walking distance of both the university area and the fairgrounds, but without any of that tourist chaos you get closer to Piazza Maggiore.

The loft concept actually works here – these aren’t your standard hotel boxes with generic art and boring bedspreads. Each space feels like someone’s carefully curated apartment, which makes sense given the name. I stayed during a trade fair week (big mistake timing-wise for most of the city, but perfect for testing this place), and while other hotels were packed with stressed business travelers, Anais’ had this calm, residential vibe. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no hovering desk clerks trying to upsell you on breakfast packages or city tours you don’t need.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between being close to everything without being in the middle of everything. You can walk to Sant’Orsola hospital in about five minutes, which might not sound exciting but it’s actually a beautiful area with some excellent local trattorias that tourists never find. The Fiera district is right there too, obviously, but even if you’re not here for business, that whole area has this authentic Bologna energy – morning markets, actual locals grabbing coffee, none of the performative Italian charm you get in the centro storico. Plus, parking isn’t a nightmare like it is in the old city. I mean, it’s still Bologna so you’re not going to find a spot right outside, but it’s manageable.

The rooms themselves feel properly lived-in without being worn down, if that makes sense. Good lighting – and I cannot stress how rare that is in Italian hotels – plus actual space to spread out your stuff. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, and honestly, the water pressure was better than my apartment back home. You can hear some street noise in the mornings, but it’s pleasant city sounds, not traffic or construction. Actually, I found it kind of nice – felt like I was living in the neighborhood rather than just visiting it.

Here’s the thing about Bologna that a lot of people don’t realize: it’s not really a city you “do” like Florence or Rome. It’s a place you experience, and staying somewhere like Anais’ Loft gets you into that rhythm. You’re not rushing from monument to monument; you’re discovering that perfect osteria two blocks away, or finding yourself in Giardini Margherita on a random Tuesday afternoon. The 9 rating makes complete sense to me – it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, but what it does, it does really well. If you want to feel like you’re actually staying in Bologna rather than just sleeping there, this is your spot.

  • cozy place to stay in Bologna – Felicia from Peru – 9 June 2023 (8/10)

    good location
    very clean
    well implemented
    cozy place

What could be improved: -It has uneven metal stairs which can be a little dangerous, be careful one of us got a small injury
-It is compulsory to fill in a pre check in registration, upload ID and selfie, and pay this service (it happened with all Italian hosts)
-Internet access is necessary to enter the apartment, through a link provided just before arrival . we didn’t realize so hat to look for a wi-fi to contact the host and she kindly helped us.

  • Good for short stay (up to 3 days), to be avoided for longer stays – Mickey from Serbia – 24 May 2023 (8/10)

It was clean, and the host was responsive to the messages sent. The fact that check-in was electronic. Overall, nice stay for two nights

What could be improved: Maybe i will get in the area of nitpicking, but i need to lay out the kinks of the place. The apartment was modified, probably from the storage/basement, so it was cold inside, and there was no remote to turn on the A/C for the heating. Beds were short and uncomfortable. There is no value for money for so-called breakfast. As a bonus, the apartment is locked a bit far from the city center (around 1.5km)
