Casa Letizia Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Bologna hotels, and Casa Letizia honestly surprised me. It’s right on Strada Maggiore – and I mean literally on it, not tucked away on some side street – which sounds like it might be noisy, but the old building’s thick walls actually do their job. You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, though you know what? I found myself using the back entrance more often because it puts you closer to the university quarter where all the good late-night spots are.
The thing about this place is it feels like someone’s actual home that happens to rent rooms, not some sterile chain property. The lobby has this worn marble flooring that’s probably been there since the 1800s, and there’s always this faint smell of espresso drifting from somewhere – turns out the family that runs it basically lives above the reception area. My room was on the second floor (no elevator, fair warning), and the ceilings were ridiculously high with these old wooden beams that probably creak for other people but somehow didn’t bother me. The bathroom was renovated recently – you can tell because the fixtures are modern but they kept the original tiles around the edges, which I thought was a nice touch.
What really sold me was the breakfast situation. They set it up in this little courtyard that you’d never guess exists from the street, and honestly, the cornetti are better than what I got at most cafés in the city center. The woman who runs breakfast – I think she’s the owner’s sister or something – remembers how you like your coffee after literally one morning. Plus, she’ll tell you which markets are good that day if you ask. The whole operation feels family-run in the best possible way, where they actually care if you’re having a decent time rather than just processing you through. I mean, they helped me figure out parking (there’s a garage about two blocks away that’s way cheaper than the touristy ones), and when I mentioned I was trying to find this specific mortadella shop, the guy at reception drew me a little map on hotel stationary. It’s that kind of place – they want you to actually experience Bologna, not just sleep there between museum visits.

Perfect location, in the middle of everything – Szilvia from Hungary – 9 June 2025 (9/10)
The location is unbeatable. The apartment is very comfortable – it has everything what you need. The kitchen is fully equipped and we really liked the travel brochures which gave us ideas what to explore.
Beautiful appartment in the centre of Bologna – Kristian from Norway – 2 June 2025 (9/10)
Beautiful appartment in the centre of Bologna, a few meters away from the two towers. Very well equipped and comfortable, spacious for two persons. We appreciated linen and towel change after a week. Very responsive host. Everything was in good working condition. The street outside is closed to traffic Saturdays and Sundays, as most of the streets in the centre. A perfect stay.
What could be improved: If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs, as the street outside is a major public transportation lane on weekdays.Friendly host and a fabulous location – Denia from United Kingdom – 3 April 2025 (10/10)
