You know what struck me first about The Place? The name is almost aggressively understated for what’s actually a really thoughtful boutique hotel tucked into Bologna’s Saragozza district. I mean, Via del Carso isn’t exactly the street tourists typically know by name, but that’s honestly part of what makes this spot work so well. You’re far enough from the medieval center’s constant foot traffic to actually sleep at night, but close enough that you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about fifteen minutes – though honestly, you’ll probably want to take the longer route through the quieter residential streets because the neighborhood itself is pretty charming.

The hotel feels like someone put real thought into the details without trying too hard to impress you. The lobby has this warm, lived-in quality that immediately makes you forget you’re in a four-star place – in a good way. Check-in was smooth (I arrived around 3 PM on a Thursday), and the staff actually seemed to know the city well enough to give useful recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. My room faced the courtyard, which meant it was genuinely quiet – something I wasn’t expecting given how sound carries in these older Italian buildings. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom modern enough without being sterile, and there’s this nice attention to lighting that makes everything feel more relaxed in the evenings. What I really appreciated was the little seating area by the window where you can actually sit and read or plan your day without feeling cramped.

The Saragozza area itself is sort of perfect for this kind of stay. You’ve got real neighborhood life happening around you – there’s a fantastic morning market just a few blocks away on Via Saragozza that locals actually shop at, not just tourists taking photos. The hotel’s location means you’re close to some of Bologna’s better restaurants that don’t show up in every guidebook, and you can walk to the university area pretty easily if that’s your thing. Parking can be tricky in this part of the city (like most of Bologna), but the hotel staff helped sort that out without making it feel like a huge ordeal. I stayed in early October when the weather was still pleasant, and the whole area felt alive but not overwhelming. The 9.4 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not flashy or trying to be something it’s not, but everything just works the way it should, which honestly feels pretty rare these days.

  The apartment was recently renovated, all brand new and functional. The neighborhood is very quite and safe. The communication with the owner was always very easy and fast. You can park your car free right in front of the apartment. There are two supermarkets nearby and two bus lines to the old town, a very short ride.
  
  What could be improved: All good, but when I booked I didn’t know that it was a ground floor and you enter the apartment directly from the street into the living room.

  Very clean and comfortable apartment with modern deco in a quiet area. The kitchen is very well equipped.
