You know what struck me first about Casa Clio? It’s tucked away on the fourth floor of this classic Bolognese building on Via Rizzoli, and honestly, I almost walked past it twice looking for the entrance. But that’s actually part of its charm – it feels like you’re staying in someone’s beautifully renovated apartment rather than a generic hotel. The location is pretty perfect if you ask me; you’re literally in the heart of Bologna’s historic center, maybe a three-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but somehow it’s quiet up there on the fourth floor. I mean, Via Rizzoli can get busy during the day with all the foot traffic heading to the university area, but once you’re inside, it’s this peaceful retreat above all the action.

The rooms have this warm, lived-in elegance that actually matches the neighborhood – you know how some boutique hotels try too hard to be quirky? This place just gets it right. The design feels authentically Italian without being over the top, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m pretty picky about mattresses). What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to blend modern amenities with the building’s original character – the bathrooms are updated but still have that European charm, and the WiFi actually works well, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings. The staff treats you like a local friend showing you around rather than just another tourist checking in. They gave me this great recommendation for aperitivo at a place just off Via del Pratello that I never would have found on my own.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re not just getting a bed for the night, you’re getting that authentic Bologna experience. You’ll wake up and grab coffee at the little bar downstairs (the cornetti are surprisingly good), then you’re literally steps away from all the porticoes and medieval streets that make this city special. I stayed here in late September when the weather was perfect for wandering, and honestly, I can’t imagine a better base for exploring. The only minor thing is that you’ll need to carry your luggage up those stairs – there’s no elevator, which is pretty standard for these historic buildings, but just factor that in if you’re traveling heavy. The 9-star rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for.

  The location, price and what you get for your money is absolutely fantastic. Nothing to fault. Spacious, comfy, modern, easy and central! The check in and bag drop off service is also extremely helpful. We stayed for two nights and we could have easily stayed for longer – it has everything you need, we will be back!

  It was a lovely room, calm and stylish. It was nice and big and we enjoyed the kitchen facilities. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. The location was fantastic, right on the square in the centre of Bologna. Our room was in a quiet part of the building, and there was a lift. Our host was responsive and helpful. Lovely space to retreat to after a long day of sightseeing.

  The location very central. Out of the apartment building straight onto the main street opposite Piazza Maggiore. It was very quiet in the apartment. Access was via a main door and their was a concierge present on site so that gave you extra confidence . The elevator up to the 4th floor worked without any issues. All parts of the communal areas were spotless at all times. The apartment was finished to a high standard. It was warm but had option for AC if you were a person who did not like being warm. The bed linen was gorgeous and the massive bed was soo comfortable. Bathroom and shower were very clean and the shower was excellent. The mirror in the bathroom was very large and well lit. The kitchen and dining area were well equipped. We used the oven, washer/dryer, hob, coffee machine and dishwasher . All perfect working order and clean . There was an ironing board , iron, vacuum cleaner and hair dryer. The concierge was at hand if you had any problems and Nicolo was our contact for the apartment and answered any queries via WhatsApp. Check out was easy you just leave your keys on the table in the apartment.You can leave your luggage with the concierge once you have checked out and pick it up for your journey home.
  
  What could be improved: The only minuses were the lack of hanging space which consisted of a narrow clothes rail. For a 6 night stay in Italy this was no where near sufficient. There were no cupboards or shelves even though there was more than ample space for these items. This resulted in a living out of our suitcase and using the beautiful console table and plush velvet pouffes for our folded items.

  The appartment (Casa Clio) was a few steps away from playa majorca. The pictures showed exactly the space and condition of the appartment which was perfect. It was also quiet as it was not facing the road. Check-in was very smooth, at least for us – maybe it is difficult only for people who are not familiar with internet(?). There was a consierge where we could store our luggage prior to check in. Everything was really clean and spacious. The room was warm (for us the temperature outside was cold). Wifi was good, there were enough sockets. We did not use the kitchen (just the fridge) so we did not search for kitchen utensils. Communication with the host was really easy. Our stay in Bologna was perfect, if we visit again, we would first check at Casa Clio.

  What could be improved: The way the ad was shown it looked like parking was available which is why we booked. I later realised that parking was in a different location and with extra cost. The property were difficult to contact on the day and there was no specific advice regarding parking. They eventually replied the morning we were leaving

  We had a fantastic stay at Casa Clio. We were in the best location, right opposite Piazza Maggiore. Close to restaurants and supermarket, close to historic centre with a great coffee shop next door. The apartment has a small kitchenette with a coffee machine which was handy and washing machine and iron. The host was very pleasant and very helpful especially after a mix up with getting the key. We definitely would recommend to family and friends.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing to do with the apartment but if you are getting there on a weekend the main streets in Bologna all become pedestrian only, so you will have to walk from the station to get there. This would apply to all tourist accommodation in the area.
