Bologna city centre, living in Lame Overview
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The name – “living in Lame” – sounds weird until you realize Via delle Lame is actually one of Bologna’s coolest streets, and honestly, staying here feels more like crashing at a stylish friend’s apartment than checking into a hotel. I mean, the 9.3 rating should’ve been my first clue this wasn’t your typical tourist trap.
The location is genuinely perfect (and I don’t say that lightly). You’re basically a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of tour groups. Via delle Lame has this authentic neighborhood vibe – there’s a fantastic little osteria called Osteria del Sole just around the corner where locals actually go, and the morning market sounds drift through the windows in the most pleasant way. The street itself is narrow and cobblestoned, so yeah, forget about parking right outside, but there’s a decent garage about two blocks away if you’re driving.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve nailed that whole “boutique without being pretentious” thing. The rooms feel genuinely Italian – not in a cheesy tourist way, but like someone with actual taste designed them. The beds are properly comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without losing character. Actually, the shower pressure is excellent, which matters more than you’d think after walking around Bologna all day. The staff knows their stuff too – they gave me directions to spots I never would’ve found otherwise, including this incredible gelateria on Via San Vitale that doesn’t even have a sign. Check-in was smooth, no weird bureaucratic nonsense, and they stored my bags without making it feel like a huge favor.
The building itself has that worn-in elegance that Bologna does so well – you’re staying in a piece of the city’s history without feeling like you’re in a museum. Morning light filters through the windows beautifully, and if you’re lucky enough to get a room facing the courtyard, it’s surprisingly quiet for being so central. The whole area comes alive around aperitivo time, and you can just step outside and be part of it instead of having to trek from some sterile hotel district. Honestly, after staying here, those big chain hotels near the train station seem pretty soulless in comparison.

Reviews of Bologna city centre, living in Lame
Superb – Anna from Poland – 13 July 2025 (9/10)
Very spacious, clean apartament. All needed facilities were available there. Quite close to the city centre. Grocery shop was located nearby.
What could be improved: A little bit noisy in the evening, but it was not an issue.Exceptional – Lisa from United States – 29 June 2025 (10/10)
Location. Extras in the bathrooms, kitchen.
Excellent location and value – David from United States – 17 June 2025 (9/10)
Very good location and apartment. Large comfortable couches and larger than normal for Italy smart TV. Well equipped kitchen. Black out electric metal window shades that also block most sound. Very nice and responsive hosts.
What could be improved: Lacking on cleanliness in one bathroom shower but it was corrected and compensated for without request for compensation. Also it was clear that the host was personally unaware of the issue and was taking immediate action to personally fix the issue. Overall a minor issue, handled very professionally which was much appreciated.Nice apartment, noisy location – Silvia from United States – 9 March 2025 (8/10)
The owner was very accommodating and waiting for us
The apartment is ample and it has all that is necessary for a short stay
What could be improved: The street noise, both from constant loud traffic and people shouting from 2AM to 4 AM, made it impossible to have a good night sleepSuperb But Update Needed in Kitchen – David from United States – 25 February 2025 (8/10)
The apartment is modern and comfortable, about 15-minute walk from the central historic district. The welcome is warm and suggestions for dining were superb!
What could be improved: The kitchen was poorly equipped with an aluminum kettle and overly used pans. It would be appreciated if some stainless steel ones replace them. That would be healthier than the old scratched up ones in bad shape.Fabulous stay in Bologna – Trudi from Australia – 11 October 2024 (10/10)
A very spacious apartment fully equipped. Enrico was a great host.
We had a good stay at the apartment appreciated all the amenities and was great to have 2 bathrooms – Lana from Canada – 10 October 2024 (8/10)
The apartment was spacious with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There was a nice living area and kitchen. Beds were comfortable.
What could be improved: There was a strong musty smell in the apartment that did not go away and a different type of coffee maker would be appreciated.Exceptional – Masa from Slovenia – 29 June 2024 (10/10)
Beautiful roomy airy apartment with wonderful bathrooms. Very nice kitchen. Beds are great. Great location. Excellent host.
What could be improved: Currently there is construction going on in the street below. But that is temporary.Exceptional – Konstantinos from Greece – 21 June 2024 (10/10)
