Bologna Centrale 1 Overview
You know what hit me first about Bologna Centrale 1? The lobby actually smells like Italy – not in that artificial hotel way, but like proper espresso and maybe a hint of the morning pastries from the café next door. It’s right there on Via Amendola, which honestly couldn’t be more perfect if you’re doing the train thing. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Bologna Centrale station, but far enough that you won’t hear the announcements at 6 AM (learned that the hard way at another place).
The whole setup feels like someone took a classic Italian palazzo and said “let’s make this work for travelers who actually want to experience Bologna.” The rooms have this really nice balance – modern enough that the WiFi doesn’t make you want to cry, but with these gorgeous original details like the high ceilings and those shutters that actually keep the summer heat out. The bathrooms are proper size too, which… well, if you’ve stayed in Italian hotels before, you know that’s not always a given. What really got me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re in the heart of everything. The street’s busy during the day but settles down beautifully after dinner.
Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you – you’re positioned perfectly for the real Bologna experience. Walk five minutes toward the center and you hit Via dell’Indipendenza, which leads straight to Piazza Maggiore, but turn the other way and you’re in this lovely residential area where locals actually live and eat. There’s this little osteria called Dal Biassanot just around the corner that serves the best tortellini in brodo I’ve had outside someone’s nonna’s kitchen. The staff at the hotel knows about spots like this too – they’re not just reciting tourist trap recommendations. During my stay, the guy at reception steered me toward the Saturday morning market at Piazza VIII Agosto, which was absolutely worth getting up early for. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find, especially in a four-star place that could easily phone it in with generic luxury touches. Instead, you get this sense that they actually care about showing you their city properly.

Reviews of Bologna Centrale 1
Great spot for a short stay in Bologna. – Sophie from United Kingdom – 10 July 2025 (8/10)
Good location and much needed air conditioning.
What could be improved: There was no internet connection on the tv.Great place near the train station – Da from United States – 5 July 2025 (10/10)
It was clean. The price was reasonable. The location is perfect if you need to be near the train station
What could be improved: Nothing. The management on WhatsApp sometimes doesn't speak English and hard to understandPerfect for overnight stay near Bologna train station – Jerry from Italy – 4 July 2025 (10/10)
Perfect location for late arrival/early depature from Bologna train station (as in our case) – only two buildings away after crossing the street in front of the station. Totally automated experience, never met anyone. Codes to the front door, the room cluster door and the room itself all sent via WhatsApp. Simple but clean and modern furnishings.
What could be improved: Everything was fine, although not having a top sheet and having to use the bed cover instead was a bit odd. Also, I had to chase down the person who sends you the entrance codes a bit.Superb – Alex from United Kingdom – 29 June 2025 (9/10)
Clean, well appointed and comfortable.
What could be improved: Registration by WhatsApp is fine if you have WiFi or signal, otherwise like Mission Impossible.Awesome stay near Bologna Centrale – Dita from Singapore – 10 June 2025 (10/10)
