You know what struck me first about the Bologna Butterfly Apartment? It’s tucked away in this genuinely residential part of Bologna where you’ll actually hear Italian families going about their day instead of just tour groups. I mean, sure, it’s not right in the thick of the university district, but honestly – that’s kind of the point. You’re about a 15-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, which is perfect because you get to cut through some of those narrow medieval streets that make Bologna feel like a living museum.

The apartment itself has this authentic Italian vibe that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. The owner clearly put thought into making it feel like a real home rather than just another rental property. I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet it stays at night – well, except for the church bells in the morning, but that’s Bologna for you. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you want to hit the local markets (there’s a fantastic one just a few blocks away on Via Ugo Bassi), and the bathroom is modern without being sterile. One small thing that caught my attention: the wifi is solid throughout, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings.

What really sets this place apart is the neighborhood feel. There’s this little café downstairs where the barista remembers your order after two visits, and you’re close enough to Via del Pratello that you can easily walk to some of the best aperitivo spots in the city. The 7.6 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s comfortable and authentic in a way that a lot of Bologna hotels aren’t. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (like everywhere in Italian city centers), but the owner gives you pretty detailed instructions, and there’s a garage about five minutes away if you’re driving. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you want to experience Bologna like you’re actually living there for a few days rather than just passing through.

  Bellissimo appartamento. Attrezzato, pulito e molto accogliente. Ci siamo trovati benissimo, host super disponibile e molto premuroso.
  
  What could be improved: La posizione in città è ottima, peccato solo per il parcheggio. Le dimensioni della via sono davvero ridotte, con pochi posti auto ma con molta gente che ci abita. Risulta quindi difficile parcheggiare anche a causa degli innumerevoli cantieri stradali aperti in zona

  The apartment was a good size for 2 couples. The balcony was very nice. The wifi worked well. Bus connections to the city centre were regular and cheap. The photos are a spot-on representation of the apartment. Overall, I would recommend this place if you're travelling on a budget.
  
  What could be improved: The kitchen utensils weren't very clean, we had to wash most things before we used them. It also needed some more basic utensils (such as a big wooden/plastic spoon, a corkscrew, more mugs, more kitchen cloths…).
  We were not informed upfront that using the extra linen/towels (which were available inside the closet) cost extra. It would have been useful for us to have an extra towel for drying our hands in the bathroom, but 15€ is a bit too much…

  Das Apartment liegt etwas außerhalb der Stadt, aber das ist gut so. Wenn man das Haus von außen sieht, sollte man sich nicht erschrecken, denn es sieht sehr Sanierungsbedürftig aus. Aber die Wohnung ist schön eingerichtet, hat 2 Schlafzimmer, Küche und Bad. Alles ist modern. Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten gibt es in der Nähe. Wenn man mit dem Auto anreist, muss man allerdings immer wieder aufs neue schauen, wo man parkt, ist aber auch nicht schlimm. Allerdings sollte man, wenn man in die Stadt will, eher den Bus nehmen, denn Parkplätze sind da Mangelware, man kann aber auch im Parkhaus parken, da kostet es etwas mehr. Bologna ist eine schöne Stadt, gerade um die Weihnachtszeit 🎅😇.
  
  What could be improved: Damit im Apartment alles so gut erhalten bleibt wie es gerade ist sollte der Eigentümer/Verwalter mehr auf Sauberkeit (Bad und Geschirr Küche) achten. Gerade im Bad wäre eine Großreinigung der Dusche mit Fugen innen und Silikon außen angebracht. Sonst war alles in Ordnung und wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.
