The apartments are scattered around Via De’ Buttieri and the surrounding medieval streets, which means you’ll wake up to the sound of locals heading to work, not tour buses. I mean, couples rate the location 8.0 for good reason. You can stumble to Piazza Maggiore in about three minutes, grab morning coffee at any of the tiny bars nearby, and actually feel like you belong in the city rather than just visiting it.

The Apartment Experience

Each room setup varies since these are actual apartments, but what struck me was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Bologna character while adding modern touches. The spaces feel lived-in but polished — you know what I mean? Some units have small kitchenettes (perfect for storing those amazing mortadella purchases from Mercato di Mezzo), and the furnishings actually reflect the neighborhood’s personality rather than some corporate design manual. It’s boutique in the best sense, where every detail feels intentional but not overthought.

The continental breakfast setup works well here, though honestly, with Bologna’s incredible café culture right outside your door, you might find yourself skipping it half the time. When I did eat there, the buffet had solid basics plus some local touches that showed they get their location. Parking is available privately, which — trust me — is a huge deal in Bologna’s historic center where most streets barely fit a Vespa, let alone a rental car. They’ve sorted out the logistics so you don’t have to stress about the practical stuff.

  The apartment in reality looks the same as in the pictures. It is clean and well equipped.
  
  What could be improved: The staff is not kind. At 11:00 we were demanded to check out by cleaning lady and when we did it they just did not care and started cleaning different apartments. Next problem is place where you pick up keys to get into the apartment meaning that you go to hotel which is around 2,5 km from the location that you will stay in. The staff at the reception of the hotel is not kind, we were not informed earlier how much will be city tax- this information wasn’t included anywhere. On booking we could see that taxes and charges are included in the price but then the receptionist told us that there is also fee to cover out of booking.

  We had a good stay at Astoria Boutique Apartments. Just a heads up: the check-in and key collection are done at a different location, about 2.5 km away, but this is clearly mentioned in the listing and you also get messages about it a few days before arrival—so it's well communicated and not a surprise if you read the info before booking.
  
  We stayed in the apartment with a bathtub, which was nicely decorated and comfortable. However, there are some ventilation issues and the bathtub is leaking a bit—it could definitely use some silicone sealing.
  
  Aside from that, everything was clean, we were provided with plenty of towels for each day, and the apartment is fully equipped. It's also conveniently located close to public transport. Overall, a pleasant experience!
