Appartamento Nuovissimo: La Casa Bolognese Overview

You know what struck me first about La Casa Bolognese? It’s actually *new* – and I mean properly new, not that tired “recently renovated” claim you see everywhere. Walking up Via Col di Lana, you’re in this authentic residential neighborhood where locals are wheeling their bikes past century-old buildings, but then you step into this apartment and it’s like someone hit the reset button. The floors have that satisfying solid feel under your feet, the bathroom fixtures still gleam, and honestly, the kitchen is better equipped than most places I’ve lived in. The whole space feels thoughtfully designed rather than just thrown together – there’s proper storage everywhere, which you don’t realize you need until you’re living out of a suitcase for a week.

The location is sort of perfect in that understated way Bologna does so well. Via Col di Lana isn’t touristy at all, but you’re maybe a 15-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, and – here’s the thing locals know – you’re actually closer to some of the city’s best eating than if you stayed right in the center. There’s this little osteria called Da Cesari just a few streets over that serves the kind of tortellini that makes you understand why Bolognese people get so defensive about their food. The morning routine becomes this lovely ritual: grab coffee at the bar downstairs (there’s always a bar downstairs in Bologna), pick up fresh bread from the panetteria on the corner, then plan your day from the apartment’s little dining table. I mean, you could eat out every meal, but having a real kitchen means you can hit the Mercato di Mezzo for ingredients and actually cook with proper Italian products.

What really won me over was how quiet it gets at night – you’re residential enough to escape the centro storico crowds, but not so far out that you feel disconnected. The building itself is well-maintained, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. The owner clearly knows what travelers actually need: strong Wi-Fi, blackout curtains that actually work, and enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. During my stay in late September, I loved how the place caught the morning light – you wake up feeling like you’re living in Bologna rather than just visiting it. Sure, you’ll want to spend your days wandering the porticos and discovering hidden churches, but having this calm, contemporary base to return to makes the whole experience feel more sustainable. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself already planning your next Bologna trip before you’ve even left.

We absolutely loved the apartment, it felt like we were home away from home. It was comfortable, cozy, and spacious. The hosts were so sweet and kind, we'll be coming back for sure.

What could be improved: The only thing we were missing were slippers, but even without them we managed, it wasn't an inconvenience.

  • Funky ex-retail shop conversion. – Elizabeth from New Zealand – 7 June 2024 (9/10)

Lovely apartment that was a converted retail shop. Helpful owner messages via booking.com. Nice shops and restaurants close by. I even had the chance to get my hair done down the road. Comfy bed.

What could be improved: Would have liked laundry detergent supplied for the washing machine. Had to buy a big bottle to do 1 load and I left it there.

  • Perfect Apartment – Jan from Germany – 2 January 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was lovely and has everything you could want. The kitchen was well equipped, so making a larger meal would have been possible. Parking on the street was possible for 7,50 Euros per day. The apartment hat many nice extras to make you feel at home. Just perfect.
