Amendola Central Station Overview
You know what struck me first about the Amendola Central Station? It’s one of those places that actually delivers on its name promise – I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Bologna Centrale, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re dragging luggage around cobblestone streets. The building itself has this solid, understated elegance that feels authentically Italian without trying too hard to impress tourists.
The location is sort of perfect for Bologna, actually. You’re right on Via Giovanni Amendola, which might sound busy (and okay, there is some street noise if you’re a light sleeper), but it puts you in this sweet spot where you can walk to the historic center in about fifteen minutes or hop on pretty much any bus or train that’ll take you wherever you need to go. I stayed there during spring, and honestly, walking through those tree-lined streets toward Piazza Maggiore became my favorite part of each day. The staff genuinely knows their stuff too – not just the touristy recommendations, but they’ll tell you which osteria actually serves the best tortellini en brodo and when the markets are worth visiting.
What really sets this place apart is how it feels lived-in rather than sterile. The rooms have this comfortable, modern setup without losing that Italian character – you know, actual wooden furniture instead of flat-pack stuff, and windows that open properly so you can hear the city waking up. The breakfast spread is surprisingly good for a four-star place; they do this fresh pastry thing that beats hotel croissants hands down, and the coffee… well, it’s Bologna, so of course it’s excellent. I will say the elevators are a bit slow if you’re on the higher floors, but that’s pretty standard for European hotels in older buildings. The 8.7 rating makes total sense when you consider you’re getting genuine Italian hospitality in a spot that locals actually respect, not just another tourist trap near the station. Plus, if you’re planning to explore Emilia-Romagna – maybe day trips to Modena or Parma – having the train station right there is honestly invaluable.

Our 2 nights in Bologna – Leslie from Australia – 30 May 2025 (8/10)
Located close to the railway station. Lovely, comfortable room.
What could be improved: Because there is no face-to-face checkin, it is important to read the email which is sent the day before your booking – otherwise, you stand outside the door wondering what to do next. While the location is convenient for those arriving by train, it can be a bit chaotic at times when traffic is heavy. It is also important to understand that it is about a 30 minute walk to the old historic centre where many of the tours commence.Just steps away from the Stazione Centrale, the room is well appointed, quiet and clean. Comfortable bed, good shower, g – Kristine from United States – 22 May 2025 (10/10)
