Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of boutique places in Bologna, but A casa di Twiggy actually lives up to its quirky name – and honestly, that 9.5 rating isn’t just tourist hype. The moment you walk into this place on Via Faustino Malaguti, you get it. It’s got this perfectly curated vintage vibe that feels intentional without being try-hard, you know? The whole aesthetic screams 1960s mod chic (hence the Twiggy reference), but it’s done with genuine Italian flair rather than that sterile “design hotel” feeling you get at chain places.

What really sold me was how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Bologna residential feel while still being, well, actually luxurious. The street itself is this lovely quiet stretch that most tourists never stumble onto – you’re close enough to walk to Piazza Maggiore in about fifteen minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of tour groups. I mean, you can actually sleep with the windows open here, which is saying something in a city center. The rooms have these gorgeous original hardwood floors that creak just the right amount (character, not annoyance), and the bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for a European boutique hotel. They’ve got this thing where they use local Bolognese ceramics and textiles throughout, which sounds precious but actually works beautifully.

The staff runs the place like they genuinely care about Bologna and want you to experience it properly – not just the obvious tourist spots. They’ll point you toward the best tortellini place in the neighborhood (spoiler: it’s not in any guidebook), and they actually know the opening hours of the smaller museums. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town, but they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage that takes most of the headache out of it. The breakfast situation is solid too – proper Italian spread with local pastries and coffee that doesn’t taste like hotel coffee, if that makes sense. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and the whole experience felt like I was crashing at a stylish friend’s apartment rather than just passing through another hotel room. For a four-star place, it punches well above its weight, and honestly, in a city where you can easily drop serious money on soulless accommodations near the train station, this feels like finding a genuine gem.

  The location was perfect. Very near to everything in a quiet street. Really light airy apartment on first floor. There was a small lift that made it easy to get bags up to first floor. All rooms had air conditioning. Bedrooms really comfortable beds and great showers.

  This is the best accommodation I ever have – super apartment , ideal location , very close to the city center and not fare of the railway station, safe area. Very cozy place , very well furnished , big rooms , very big bathrooms , with all you need , very well equipped kitchen and very clean place, we really love it. And Frederica is the perfect host – very kind and helpful, quick responded , provide as a very useful information about shops, restaurants , trattorias etc. I definitely recommend !

  Everything was amazing and above any expectation we had. Federica was lovely to meet. She had a very comprehensive guide for her home and for the city with great tips for visiting. The apartment was perfect – great location within walking distance of the center, with a parking. The rooms were very big and the kitchen was large and allowed us to spend an amazing family vacation. When I come back to Bologna, it will be at Casa di Twiggy.

  The location was very convenient. the center of the old town is about 10 minutes walking. It is a very quite area – just some noisy young neighbors :-). It is very beautifuly decorated, extremely clean with all the amenities included and fully equipped. The owner is very friendly and always happy to help us and inform us.
  
  What could be improved: It would be more comfortable to have another sofa in the living room so that we could spend more time in such a cosy apartment. Since it is a house for about 8 or even 10 people one or two more couches would be necessary.
