A Casa di Lu Na Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to A Casa di Lu Na on Via Massarenti, you immediately get the sense that this isn’t your typical chain hotel. The name itself — which translates to “Lu Na’s House” — hints at the intimate, homey atmosphere you’re about to experience. This four-star boutique property sits in one of Bologna‘s most coveted neighborhoods, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. There’s something refreshingly personal about the whole setup that makes you feel like you’re staying at a well-connected friend’s place rather than just another tourist accommodation.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re perfectly positioned between Bologna’s university district and the historic center, which means you get the best of both worlds. The Via Massarenti area has this authentic, lived-in feel that’s hard to find in more touristy parts of the city. You’ll notice locals going about their daily routines, small cafes that actually cater to residents, and that genuine Italian neighborhood vibe. It’s about a 15-minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, but honestly, the tram connections are so good that getting around feels effortless. Couples especially seem to appreciate this balance — close enough to everything important, but tucked away from the crowds.

Your Home Base

The room I stayed in had this thoughtful, understated elegance that felt distinctly Italian without being over-the-top about it. You know what struck me most? The attention to small details — quality linens, proper lighting for reading, and windows that actually open (which isn’t always a given these days). The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed, though not huge — but that’s pretty standard for European properties. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything felt, even though you’re on a fairly busy street. The soundproofing is clearly something they’ve invested in.

Daily Rhythms

Breakfast here isn’t just fuel for sightseeing — it’s actually a pleasant way to start your day. They serve it in a bright, welcoming space that feels more like a neighborhood cafe than a hotel dining room. The selection hits that sweet spot between continental classics and local specialties, and the coffee is properly Italian strong. I mean, you’re in Bologna, so the coffee better be good, right? The staff seems genuinely interested in helping you plan your day, and they know the area well enough to give you those insider tips that make a real difference.

Why Guests Love It

What sets A Casa di Lu Na apart is how it manages to feel both polished and personal. The 8.5 rating reflects what you experience — solid comfort and service without any pretension. The location score of 8.7 isn’t just numbers on a screen; it represents the freedom to explore Bologna on foot, discover neighborhood gems, and still have easy access to major sights. This is the kind of place where you’ll find yourself lingering over morning coffee, planning your day without feeling rushed. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Bologna — it’s trying to be the one you’d choose again, and that makes all the difference.

Apartments in Bologna suit remote creatives with sunlit loggias, speedy Wi-Fi, and studio nooks overlooking alley murals.

  • Confortable – Alice from Italy – 10 February 2025 (10/10)

The room was very nice and clean, I had an early appointment at the hospital right in front so the location was perfect as it’s also near the centre

  • Very convenient location close to S. Vitale. – Rado from Slovenia – 13 January 2025 (9/10)

Perfect location to visit the city centre. The room & bathroom were very clean. It was warm enough and warm water was available throughout the day. It is possible to park on the streets around the lodging, but you need to be patient and drive around a little bit to find an empty spot. The owner kindly contacted us in the morning before our arrival and gave us the instruction to check in.

What could be improved: We'd prefer a later check-out, 12 or at least 11am instead of 10am.
At first we went to the wrong address (200 m away), but that was OUR fault as we didn't read the owner's message carefully. Writing this as a warning to others, not as a negative critique! Read the owner's message carefully as you might not be on the address published on Booking!

  • Room in Bologna – Gloria from Ireland – 16 November 2024 (8/10)

This was 5/6 ensuite rooms with a shared kitchen in what I imagine was originally an apartment. The rooms were comfortable and very clean and we had a kettle and a fridge in the room. We didn't use the kitchen but it had a microwave and we were able to leave our luggage there after check out. Check in and entry to the building was automatic and we did not meet our host Michelle, however he was always available by phone. We enjoyed our stay here although a little out of town it was good value.

What could be improved: Nothing really

  • Exceptional – Elias from Germany – 13 September 2024 (10/10)

The room was very clean and everything looked very new. The beautiful ceiling picture was particularly noteworthy. The location is relatively central and right next to a bus stop.

  • Very good – Hannah from Australia – 6 September 2024 (8/10)

location was great, big room and big bathroom and had a kettle,

  • Exceptional – Kai from Netherlands – 3 August 2024 (10/10)

Everything was clean and easy to find. The owners replied very quick and clear.

What could be improved: Some things were a little low quality but we really did not care at this price. All in all great for the price.

  • Nice, clean acco with great accesibility to city center. – Bochánek from Czech Republic – 20 July 2024 (10/10)

Nice, cosy room, with a working AC. Everything was fine, bus station is circa 100 metres from this accommodations.

What could be improved: You can here some noises from the other rooms..
