You know what caught me off guard about this place? The self check-in actually works perfectly – I mean, I was skeptical because we’ve all dealt with those clunky hotel kiosks that make you want to throw your phone at the wall. But Tourist House Bologna has this down to a science. You get your codes, punch them in, grab your key, and you’re golden. No awkward small talk at 11 PM when you just want to collapse.

The location on Via Oberdan is honestly fantastic if you know Bologna at all. You’re walking distance from Piazza Maggiore – like, genuinely walkable, not that tourist-brochure “walkable” where you need hiking boots. I grabbed morning coffee at the little bar on the corner (locals actually drink there, which is always a good sign) and wandered over to see the Neptune fountain before the crowds hit. The street itself has that perfect Bologna energy – busy enough to feel alive but not so chaotic that you can’t sleep. There’s this great osteria about three blocks down where the ragu is… well, it’s the kind of place you’d never find without staying in the neighborhood.

The rooms are clean and modern without being sterile, if that makes sense. Nothing fancy, but everything works – the shower has proper water pressure, the bed is actually comfortable, and there’s enough space to open your suitcase without doing gymnastics. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be the Grand Hotel Majestic down the street, but it’s leagues better than those budget places near the train station where you wonder about the stains on the carpet. I stayed during late spring and the windows opened wide enough to get that cross-breeze going, which was clutch because Bologna gets surprisingly warm. The building itself has character – you can tell it’s been around, with those thick walls that keep things quiet even though you’re right in the city center. Honestly, for the price point and that 8.9 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who wants to experience Bologna like you live there (grabbing groceries at the market, taking evening strolls through the porticoes, actually talking to locals instead of just photographing them), this place puts you right in the mix without breaking the bank.

  The hotel was in an excellent central location, easy to walk to restaurants and the train station. The host, Guido, was very communicative and helpful in giving suggestions and helping us fix the water heater we turned off accidentally. The space of the hotel was perfect for 4 adults. At night it was loud outside because of street cleaning but it was expected with the location so it wasn't too big of an issue. Overall a good stay.

  Secure apartment, great space, very central, easy to get around. The owner Guido is fantastic!!!!! His communication and support right from the beginning has been great and he has been so very helpful and very responsive. He messaged by WhatsApp in advance of our arrival and was happy to answer questions and give suggestions about transfers, trips, supermarkets and recommendations of where to eat out. Lovely man and certainly deserves to have plenty of bookings.

  What could be improved: To me, this isnt a negative, its just something to consider. The apartment is right in the centre of things in the old town. There is lots of activity and buzz, with lots of bars and restaurants around. Whilst not ideal for all, there is something for everyone. It's a great location for getting around.
