Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Bologna, but this penthouse on Via Irnerio genuinely surprised me. You know that feeling when you walk into a place and immediately think “okay, this is actually nicer than the photos”? That’s exactly what happened here. The space feels properly luxurious without being stuffy about it – I mean, you’re literally on the top floor with these massive windows that frame the city like some kind of postcard, but it still feels like somewhere you’d actually want to hang out, not just pose for Instagram.

The location is honestly perfect if you know Bologna at all. Via Irnerio puts you right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to Piazza Maggiore (maybe 12 minutes if you’re not dawdling), but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos every time you step outside. There’s this excellent little enoteca just around the corner that the locals actually use, and you’re a stone’s throw from the university area – which sounds like it might be noisy, but honestly, it just adds this nice energy to the neighborhood without being disruptive. The street itself is pretty quiet, especially in the evenings.

What really gets me about this place is the attention to detail that you don’t always expect from vacation rentals. The kitchen actually has proper equipment (not just the bare minimum), the bed is genuinely comfortable – like, hotel-quality comfortable – and they’ve got this terrace space that’s perfect for morning coffee or evening wine. I spent way more time up there than I planned to, just watching the city wake up or wind down. The bathroom deserves a mention too; it’s one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly, which… well, if you’ve traveled enough, you know that’s not always a given. Check-in was smooth – they met me right at the building, which saved me from wandering around with my luggage trying to figure out the buzzer system. Small thing, but it matters when you’re tired from traveling. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevator is one of those classic Italian ones that’s, shall we say, cozy – but honestly, that just adds to the charm of staying in a real Bologna building rather than some generic modern complex.

  The kitchen and the living room had a good space.
  
  What could be improved: The upstair good size beedrooms had just one double bed in each room with very shabby linens on them.
  We had to share a double bed with 2 adults so we had horrible sleeps.
  There was no kitchen towels at all or tissue paper so we had to buy them.
  Even though the location is still within center of the city, the surrounding was quit dirty.
