Torri & Portici Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Bologna over the years, and Torri & Portici genuinely surprised me. The location on Via Ranzani is actually perfect – you know that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but not drowning in tourist crowds? That’s exactly what this is. It’s maybe a 15-minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, but honestly, you’ll want to wander through the porticoes anyway because that’s half the Bologna experience right there.

The hotel itself sits in this beautiful historic building that – and I mean this in the best way – doesn’t try too hard to be trendy. The rooms have this understated elegance that feels authentically Italian rather than some designer’s idea of what Italian should look like. My room overlooked a quiet courtyard, which was a blessing because Via Ranzani can get a bit busy during the day (though it settles down nicely in the evenings). The beds are actually comfortable, not just pretty to look at, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure – small things that matter when you’re exploring the city all day. What really got me was the breakfast setup. They source a lot of their ingredients locally, and you can tell. The prosciutto is from a place just outside the city, the coffee is from a roastery I’d never heard of but will definitely remember, and the pastries… well, let’s just say I extended my stay partly because of those cornetti.

The staff here knows Bologna inside and out – not just the obvious tourist spots but the kind of places locals actually go. They pointed me toward this tiny osteria on Via del Borgo di San Pietro that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in the city. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of town (it’s a ZTL zone, so heads up if you’re driving), but the hotel works with a garage about five minutes away, and they’ll sort out all the permit stuff for you. The whole experience just feels… right, you know? It’s got that 9.3 rating for good reasons that aren’t immediately obvious until you’re there. This isn’t the flashiest place you’ll find, but it’s the kind of hotel that makes you feel like you’re staying in Bologna, not just visiting it.

Reviews of Torri & Portici

  • Excellent accomodation and a very friendly and caring host. – Pina from Australia – 14 July 2025 (9/10)

The apartment was spotless and very comfortable. Franco, our host was excellent, caring and gave us lots of advice and knowledge of Bologna.

What could be improved: The location. Although only a 20 minute walk to the centre, the location wasn’t as eye pleasing as I would have liked

  • Clean, tody and comfortable stay in Bologna – Mark from New Zealand – 24 June 2025 (9/10)

Fairly newish apartment, very clean and tidy with comfortable bed. The host was extremely helpful and welcoming, he even arranged a taxi for us as we had a very early connection.

  • Superb – Thomas from Spain – 3 June 2025 (9/10)

Very clean and modern big room. The staff were very friendly.

What could be improved: During the day you could hear the apartment above but during the night it wasn’t a problem and it’s a 20 min walk to the center.

  • Great stay! – Julie from United Kingdom – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

The host was very helpful and friendly. The room was a decent size and had everything you needed. It was great to have a shared kitchen and a light breakfast was included that was lovely. Close to the city walls and so an easy walk to the central area, and parking just outside the apartment block, which was reasonably priced.

What could be improved: It was all good, nothing to dislike

  • A modern spacious room in a very good location. – Debbie from United Kingdom – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

The room was clean & spacious and our host Franco was very helpful and made some excellent recommendations on places to visit.

What could be improved: The parking was a bit of a challenge. Breakfast was quite basic.

  • Ah, Bologna – Rae from United States – 24 May 2025 (10/10)

The room was clean and modern – in an apartment in a locked building with an elevator. Location was just outside the city wall in the university neighborhood. Everything walkable but buses were available. Franco, the manager, was helpful and friendly.

  • This is a very nice modern and clean place to stay. Owners were very accommodating and around if we needed anything.. – Lorraine from United States – 17 May 2025 (10/10)

    Very clean, friendly owner.

What could be improved: A little bit of noise outside in the morning.

  • Absolute gem 💎 – Vanya from Bulgaria – 3 May 2025 (10/10)

The place was in a good area near the old town. There was enough space to park our rental near the entrance of the building. The host was absolutely amazing – super nice, they have sent us some useful info beforehand. The room was spacious, clean and had everything we could possibly need… and more!!!! Breakfast was not included in the price nevertheless the host had some complimentary coffee and breakfast ready for us in the morning which was a lovely surprise! We absolutely loooooved this place!!! I would recommend it for sure!!!!!!

  • Good value for money! Big comfortable room! – Ines from Belgium – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

super spacious room! walking distance from city centre.

What could be improved: a bit noisy

  • Very good – Irina from Spain – 30 April 2025 (8/10)

This is a very small apartment hotel, which is good: it felt safe and cozy. The personnel is very nice and friendly and they contact you in your language. The room was very comfy and clean, great bed and bedding, spacious bathroom, etc. The area is quiet and green. We enjoyed our stay!

What could be improved: It is a bit pricey in my opinion, especially considering the location: it’s a bit further from the city. It wasn’t bad for us since we had an event in Bologna Fiere (but it’s still 25-30 minutes walk/bus to get there), but if you’re coming to see the city it’s not the most convenient option. Besides, not a lot of cafes around.
