I mean, everyone claims “bellavista” but this place on Via Pescherie Vecchie actually sits right in the heart of Bologna’s old fish market district, so you’re getting these incredible views over the medieval streets and terracotta rooftops that make the city so damn photogenic.

The location is pretty brilliant if you know Bologna at all. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but tucked away on this narrow street that most tourists just rush past on their way to the main square. Via Pescherie Vecchie has this amazing morning energy – there’s still a food market that sets up early, and you’ll hear the vendors calling out in dialect while you’re having your coffee. The building itself is on the first floor (that’s second floor for Americans), which means you get the views without street noise keeping you up. Well, mostly – Bologna’s a university town, so weekend nights can get a bit lively, but it’s more charming than annoying.

What really sets this place apart is the design element they mention in the name. The rooms have this modern Italian aesthetic that doesn’t feel sterile – think clean lines but with warm woods and local touches. The bathrooms are actually spacious, which is a minor miracle in these historic buildings. I loved the attention to details like proper lighting for reading and outlets where you actually need them. The breakfast setup is small but thoughtful – local pastries, good coffee (this is Bologna, after all), and they’ll point you toward the best spots for everything else. Parking is… well, it’s Bologna’s city center, so forget about driving here. The train station is close enough for a taxi ride, or you can walk it in about fifteen minutes with luggage if you’re feeling ambitious. The staff genuinely knows the city – not just the tourist spots, but where to find the best tortellini at 11 PM or which wine bars won’t rip you off. That kind of local knowledge makes such a difference when you’re trying to experience Bologna like someone who actually lives there rather than just checking boxes off a guidebook.

  Very centrally located. Easy in and out. Short walk to anything you want to get to. There was some noise from the square, but that comes with being in the center of a city.
  
  What could be improved: The listing included a parking icon. There was not parking. There is a paid public parking lot quite a ways away from the property. I should have expected that given the location.

  What could be improved: Advertised with A/C but only one bedroom and the dining room had A/C fitted, one bedroom had an ineffectual Dyson fan and the heat of August meant those in that bedroom and the one person on a sofa bed had a very uncomfortable night. Toilet flush was a knack that we struggled to master. Overlooks main square which was both beautiful and noisy late into the night.

  Location, location, location! Such a perfect spot as your base for Bologna. It exceeded my
  expectations! Very clean and very comfortable, a bottle of wine left for us to enjoy by the hosts too was a lovely touch!
  
  What could be improved: Three flights of stairs to access property. The air con in the back bedroom was excellent, however the air con in the dining room cooled the rest of the apt and we found the rest of the apt. and the second bedroom was very warm in the middle of summer.

  Amazing location, right in the heart of Bologna in the Piazza Maguire, with everything on your doorstep. Beds were comfortable and the apartment had air conditioning which is a must in July. Easy to access in and out of the building, perfect location for exploring the city on foot.
  
  What could be improved: Initial communication was poor as we were driving in and needed to know where to park. Had no response so read the previous reviews and parked at the station, which meant a 15 minute walk to the property. If driving get clear instructions on where is best to park, as the nearest park is in the centre. Once we are the property everything was great.

  What could be improved: The streets all around the property were all closed . It should have been mentioned in the property posting that the property is not accessible by car. When I reserved this, I expected that if there are special conditions such as this case, the owner shall mention it. It took us four hours to get to the property. Finally we had to park our cars in the central station parking and walk to the property.

  My review cannot do justice this property. It is absolute perfection.
  The location is unbeatable. Views out to piazza maggiore and then as soon as you leave the apartment you are in one of the coolest streets packed full of wonderful restaurants.
  Inside the apartment it is like an art gallery for interior design!! Exquisitely decorated yet thoughtfully functional, with details like wireless charging pads next to the beds.
  The hosts left wine, coke and water as well.
