So I stumbled across Macan Suite Rooms on Via Matteotti last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that gets Bologna right without trying too hard. You know how some hotels feel like they could be anywhere – well, this isn’t that. The building itself has this understated Italian elegance thing going on, tucked right into the historic center where you can actually walk to everything that matters.

The location is what really sold me, though. Via Matteotti isn’t one of those tourist-trap streets, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore and all the main action. I mean, I could smell the tortellini from Osteria del Sole drifting up to my room some evenings – which sounds weird but was actually pretty charming. The area gets busy during the day with locals doing their shopping, but it settles down nicely after dinner. No drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM, which I definitely appreciated. Parking’s a bit of a puzzle like anywhere in Bologna’s center, but there’s a decent garage nearby on Via Indipendenza if you’re driving.

What I really liked about the place was how they’ve managed to keep that authentic Italian feel without skimping on the stuff that actually matters. The suites are properly spacious – not just “European spacious” where you can barely open your suitcase. Mine had these gorgeous high ceilings and original hardwood floors that creaked just enough to remind you you’re in a centuries-old building. The bathroom was surprisingly modern though, with one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no weird upselling or complicated key card systems, just genuine helpful staff who seemed to actually know the neighborhood. They pointed me toward this little enoteca around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, those wine recommendations alone made the stay worth it. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything just works the way it should, and you get that real Bologna experience without feeling like you’re roughing it.

  Close to the railway station.
  Easy check-in.
  The room was great with all fittings and furniture to a high standard.
  The Manager/Owner quickly replied to any queries and messaged several times during my stay (10 nights) to enquire as to whether I needed anything.
  The staff who attended the rooms/housekeeping were very helpful and friendly.
  The centre of Bologna (1.2kms) was easily accessible and took about 20 minutes to walk.
  
  What could be improved: There was nothing I disliked.
  The property is close to the railway lines and one can hear the trains (not loud) – a light sleeper may find the noise a problem.

  The room was well laid out with a king size bed, very nice bathroom and easy access. The coffee machine and large screen TV were a nice addition. The location minutes from the train station and a comfortable walk to the old town was perfect.
  
  What could be improved: It was close to the train station and busy streets so the road and train noise was very audible in the early morning as well as the noises from adjacent properties in the building was quite noticeable. Other amenities that could be considered include Kleenex tissues and a waste basket in the bedroom. The one in the bathroom was the only one and quite small.

  What could be improved: There is no parking direct to the building so you have to go to the main street then go to the apartment building. Sound proof is zero. The host ask for my personal document through what’s up which strange and inform the booking.com and they confirmed it without any serious action taken.

  The rooms were excellently furnished and very clean. The location just next to the train station makes it ideal if you want to travel around the region. The host is cooperative and pleasant.
  
  What could be improved: A minor thing, but no slippers provided in the room. Would have been welcome since the floor is kinda cold.
  Also a hairdryer would have been nice bonus.

  Location and value for money. The Property was clean and it’s like new. If you are going to make Bologna as your base for your trip to Italy, then this is for you as it’s only a few minutes walk to the train station making it Very convenient.
  
  What could be improved: Nothing except for the lift maybe. It scared me a bit making me feel as it is old and quite small. If you are claustrophobic, better not take the lift but take the stairs instead. A bit dark at the hall ways.
