Hotel Touring Overview
You know what struck me first about Hotel Touring? The lobby actually smells like old leather and espresso instead of that generic hotel air freshener – which honestly makes sense once you realize you’re standing in what feels like someone’s elegant Bolognese apartment from the 1920s. I mean, the building itself sits right on Via de’ Mattuiani, this narrow street that most tourists completely miss even though it’s literally a three-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore. The location is sort of perfect in that sneaky way where you’re close enough to everything important but tucked away from the crowds stumbling around with their gelato at midnight.
The rooms have this lived-in charm that’s hard to fake – parquet floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a historic building, but not so much that you’re wondering about structural integrity. What I really appreciated was how they’ve managed to squeeze modern bathrooms into these old spaces without making everything feel cramped or weird. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the windows… well, depending on which room you get, you might be looking at medieval walls or into someone’s kitchen across the alley, but that’s Bologna for you. The staff genuinely seems to know the city – not just the tourist spots, but where to grab the best tortellini in brodo on a Tuesday afternoon, or which osteria stays open late without being a tourist trap.
Here’s the thing about this place: it’s not trying to be something it’s not. The 4-star rating feels honest – you’re not getting marble everything and a spa, but you’re getting a really solid base in one of Italy’s most underrated cities. The 8.6 rating makes sense too, because while it’s not perfect (the elevator is tiny, and good luck if you’re traveling with huge suitcases), it delivers on what actually matters. Breakfast is served until 10:30, which is civilized, and they know how to make proper cappuccino. The neighborhood comes alive around 7 PM when locals start their evening passeggiata, and you can walk to the university quarter in about ten minutes if you want to see where Bologna gets its energy from. Parking is… well, it’s Bologna, so forget about driving anyway. But the train station is close enough for day trips to Florence or Venice, and honestly, once you’re here, you’ll probably want to just wander the porticoes and discover why people who actually live in Italy often prefer Bologna to the more famous cities.

Location is very good. Just short distance walk to the heart of centre. A nice neighborhood with many little shops. Room is very clean. Bed is comfortable. Shower is wonderful. The breakfast is awesome. The car park charge is high but the car was kept in a secured private courtyard. Advance booking is required.

What could be improved: Bit complicated with the Rooftop Bar, drink charging system?! Just add a cover, then we know what we’re paying forGreat hotel would definitely recommend it to other travellers. – Peter from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (9/10)
The hotel was superb,
staff were friendly and approachable, the suite was very comfortable and relaxing.
Breakfast was excellent and had a very wide choice of food.
The hotel location was good and made it very accessible to all the main attractions of the city.
What could be improved: We felt the rooftop bar was a bit expensive for what was available and felt as a paying guest the charges were unacceptable.Exceptional – Elizabeth from United States – 9 May 2025 (10/10)
