First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Maxim on Via Stalingrado, you immediately get the sense this is a place that knows its regulars — and honestly, that’s exactly what it is. Plus, there’s parking here — free private parking, actually — which anyone who’s tried to drive in Bologna’s center will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, functional, with decent Wi-Fi and a bathroom that actually had good water pressure. The beds are comfortable enough, though I wouldn’t call them luxurious. What I appreciated was the attention to small details: proper blackout curtains (crucial for jet lag recovery), enough outlets near the bed, and a mini-fridge that actually keeps things cold. The air conditioning worked well during my July stay, which honestly matters more than fancy marble when it’s 35 degrees outside.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast buffet surprised me — in a good way. They’ve got the usual Italian spread with excellent coffee (this is Bologna, after all), but they also accommodate gluten-free guests without making a big production about it. The pastries are clearly from a local bakery, not some industrial supplier, and the staff actually knows how to make a proper cappuccino. I mean, you’re not going to confuse this with a restaurant experience, but for a hotel breakfast, it sets you up nicely for exploring the city.

What really struck me about Hotel Maxim is how many guests seemed to be returning visitors — the staff mentioned they have more repeat customers than most places, and you can see why. It’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises.   The hotel was in general nice. The room was big and comfy with everything one needs. The staff in reception was really polite and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: The breakfast could be better with more variety and quality. Although, I can say that the problem was that it was only one person (nice lady) preparing everything and cleaning after us.

  Price with (ok) breakfast was really good, it has a direct and fast connection to the central station, the bus stop is just next to the hotel.
  
  What could be improved: Everything is a bit old and weird 😅 the first room we got was still in use or not cleaned, so we got another room, however, that one was really old. There was an AC however, it literally just blew air right in front of it, the whole room did not cool down at all, unfortunately.

  It is pet-friendly and costs an extra 10 euros per pet, which is great because I could bring my dog. The place was very good for the price. I liked the breakfast; for the price of the hotel, it was better than expected. There was both sweet and savory food, along with a coffee machine and more. The room had two floors. We didn’t even need the extra beds on the second floor, but it was nice to have the space. The outside view was also nice.
  
  What could be improved: The place was actually clean, but some things needed fixing. For example, some plugs were slightly loose, and there was a noisy fan in the bathroom—or whatever it was—that kept making noise all night.

  The location is very nice, clean and comfortable bed🙂 The breakfast very good also with everything you need and very taste croissants 😁and very good thing is very close to the airport with a taxi. I found that is much easier and good value to get taxi instead of public
  transport.
