Look, I’ll be straight with you about [FIERA] Bologna Expo Home – it’s one of those places that actually gets what business travelers need without pretending to be something it’s not. When I first pulled up to Via Oreste Trebbi (and yes, you’ll want to GPS that because San Donato isn’t exactly tourist central), I was honestly expecting another cookie-cutter hotel near the fairgrounds. But there’s something refreshingly honest about this place that caught me off guard.

The thing is, this hotel knows its purpose. You’re probably here for Fiera District events or maybe you snagged a deal because you don’t mind being a bit outside Bologna’s historic center – and honestly, that’s not a bad call. The train connections into the city are actually pretty solid, and you’ll avoid the chaos of staying right in the thick of things. What surprised me was how much thought they put into the details that matter when you’re dealing with early morning meetings or late conference dinners. The rooms have this clean, modern feel without being sterile, and the beds are legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about this – too many Italian hotels skimp on mattresses). The soundproofing is better than expected too, which matters because you’re near enough to the expo center that there’s usually some activity.

Here’s what I really appreciated – the staff actually knows the area. When I asked about getting to Palazzo dei Congressi, they didn’t just point vaguely and say “taxi.” They walked me through the shuttle schedules and mentioned which entrance to use depending on what event I was attending. Small thing, but it shows they’ve done this before. The breakfast setup is solid without being fancy – proper coffee (thank god), decent selection, and they keep it stocked even during the rush when half the hotel is heading to the same 9 AM conference. Parking was straightforward, which… honestly, if you’ve driven around Bologna, you know that’s not something to take for granted. The whole experience felt efficient in the best way possible – not rushed, just well-organized. I mean, that 8.6 rating makes sense when you realize they’re not trying to be the Grand Hotel Villa San Martino; they’re just being really good at what they actually are.

  Good place to stay for a short stopover. Ate out at a good restaurant nearby, La Piccola Trattoria.

  What could be improved: Could do with some adaptors for the sockets. Unable to use the hairdryer ( which was provided) in the bathroom due to the style of the socket.

  Nice room and new facilities. Good location in a quiet area with public transport and supermarket nearby. The room is on base floor and people are passing by outside but we were for a single night so it was okay.

  Giovanni allowed us to check in early. Very nice of him. Everything was great in the apartment which is on the ground floor. Easy to cook. Common salt sugar oil tea coffee available. Some utensils too are available. Bed is very comfortable. Storage section is good. Toilet and bathroom well designed.
  
  What could be improved: Since there is no one to orient you regarding the apartment so either there should be videos showing you how to operate certain gadgets, instructions or do & don'ts . Colour code or labels on the electrical swtiches which tell you which one is for fan light. Which switch is not to be touched. Which is for the hot water.
  
  Giovanni's response time depends on his work schedule. So there should be someone else who promptly answers your queries.
  
  We booked the apartment because it was fairly close to the Boligna Congress centre where we attended a medical conference. Sadly there was no iron in the apartment which is so carefully designed. For formal events we need to iron and laundry can be time consuming and expensive
  
  The towels are only one set for the 4 days that we stayed and no one comes to clean. That is fine but that information should be given before we do the booking.
  
  Also how to reach the location by bus should be known to the person who has booked. Bus no 35 from Bologna Centrale and bus no 20 for the city centre.
  
  Artificial lighting is alright in the room but natural lighting is never there because you cannot open the blinds since it road facing and on ground floor

  Host was very friendly and supportive. The apartment is close to the Fiera di Bologna, which is ideal if you are attending any events in the venue.

  Great value accommodation that had everything we needed. The host is very communicative and replies promptly. About a 15-minute walk to the main entrance of the Bologna Fiere, and a supermarket is only a three-minute walk away. Recommended.
