Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Bologna, and Emozione Bologna Sant Orsola honestly caught me off guard – in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Via Pelagio Palagi, which is actually perfect because you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the tourist chaos around Piazza Maggiore. The whole Sant’Orsola area has this really nice residential feel, you know? You’ll see actual Bolognese people walking their dogs and grabbing coffee at the corner bar, not just tour groups with selfie sticks.

The hotel itself feels like someone who actually understands hospitality designed it. I mean, the 9.6 rating isn’t just because they have nice towels (though they do) – it’s all those little things that make you think “oh, they actually get it.” The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance that doesn’t feel stuffy, and honestly, the staff remembers your name after one conversation. When I checked in, the woman at the front desk casually mentioned that the university area gets a bit lively on Thursday nights – just so I’d know – and suggested the quieter rooms facing the courtyard. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you don’t get at chain hotels.

What really sold me was the location’s practicality. You’re a fifteen-minute walk to the historic center, but here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: you’re also right near some of Bologna’s best everyday spots. There’s this incredible little osteria called Al Cambio just down the street that serves the kind of tortellini that makes locals argue about whose nonna’s recipe is better. The hotel’s near the university district too, so the energy is great without being overwhelmingly touristy. And parking – God, parking in Bologna is usually a nightmare – but they actually help you figure it out without that condescending “well, you should have researched this” attitude.

The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully designed rather than just decorated. I stayed in one of their doubles, and you could tell someone considered how you’d actually use the space. The lighting works for both reading and getting ready, there’s enough surface area for your stuff without feeling cluttered, and the bathroom has that nice rainfall shower that doesn’t leave you fighting with the water pressure. It’s not massive – this is Bologna, not Vegas – but it’s proportioned right.

What I really appreciated was how the hotel sits in the neighborhood. You’re near the Sant’Orsola hospital complex, which sounds weird but actually means the area is well-maintained and has good public transport connections. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you realize it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town – it’s just consistently excellent at being exactly what a good hotel should be. You’ll sleep well, the Wi-Fi actually works, and when you step outside, you’re in a real part of Bologna where people live and work, not just pose for Instagram photos.

  The apartment is so beautiful, had everything we needed with a very comfortable living room, bed, kitchen and bath, including a washing machine and a gorgeous garden! Located in a very nice area with lovely places to eat nearby and it was easy to get to the beautiful old town center by bus / walking, and to central station by bus. The host Isabella is so lovey and helpful. We felt she really wanted to make sure we enjoy our stay in the apartment and in Bologna. Thank you so much for everything Isabella <3 We hope to come back!!

  Das Apartment ist aussergewöhnlich schön und originell. Es ist sehr gut ausgestattet und man ist sehr schnell eingelebt. Es befindet sich in angenehmer Distanz zum Zentrum der Altstadt und ist trotzdem sehr gut gelegen. Man kann entweder zu Fuss ins Zentrum laufen oder eine der zahlreichen und einfach zu benutzenden Busverbindungen nehmen. Viele Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Restaurants in der nahen Umgebung und wenn man selber etwas zu Essen zubereiten möchte, verfügt die Wohnung über eine sehr gut ausgestattete Küche. Wir mochten die Grösse des Apartments, das schöne Badezimmer und die schöne und hochwertige Ausstattung. Besonderer Dank gehört Isabella, der Vermieterin, die alles sehr gut vorbereitet und uns sehr gut empfangen und informiert hat.

  Spacious, quite close to the city centre if you like to walk. Close to the bus stop and taxi stop. Place to work, good wifi. Generally we enjoyed our stay and we recommend this place.
  
  What could be improved: Toilet was dirty – that's totally unacceptable… Dirty plates and glasses. From the minor things – dust here and there. No oven. Plus if you're disabled person or just have difficulty climbing stairs it would difficult for you to get into apartment as it's on the top floor – there are even stairs in the apartment.

  The apartment felt more like a home than a rental. The host design for the unit is very chic. Isabella also made us feel that we were important and valued as guests. It was so clean, as if it was brand new and we were the first to stay! We really enjoyed just being in the apartment. It was not just a place to sleep and eat.

  Sentirsi a casa anche se lo si è lontano.
  Già dall'ingresso si percepisce la cura del dettaglio, quasi un percorso sensoriale che conduce alla sorpresa di una vista dall'alto della living calda e accogliente che immediatamente mette a proprio agio l'ospite. Una volta raggiunto il piano si accede alla camera da letto con bagno padronale dalle misure generose e comode, che scandiscono un tempo lento in grado di far apprezzare il soggiorno. La signora Isabella è stata una host all'altezza della sua creazione, come lei stessa mi ha descritto raccontando i lavori e descrivendo con passione il risultato di tanta cura messa per realizzare un piccolo gioiello che condivide con gli ospiti che hanno il piacere e la fortuna di soggiornarvi.
