You know what? When I first walked up to this place on Via Palestro, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from something called “Charming and cosy apartment” – it sounds like every other Airbnb listing, right? But actually stepping inside, I get it now. This isn’t trying to be some fancy hotel experience; it’s genuinely what it says it is, and that’s exactly why it works so well.

The Saragozza neighborhood is one of those areas that most tourists completely miss, which is honestly their loss. You’re about a 15-minute walk from the city center – close enough that you’ll never feel disconnected, but far enough that you escape the crowds and actually hear Italian conversations instead of tour groups. The street itself is pretty quiet, lined with those classic Bologna buildings with the faded ochre walls and green shutters. I mean, you’ll get the occasional Vespa buzzing by in the morning, but it’s more charming than annoying. There’s a little alimentari just around the corner where the owner definitely remembers your face after day two, and honestly, grabbing fresh bread there each morning became part of my routine.

What really surprised me about the apartment was how much thought went into the details. The kitchen actually has everything you need if you hit the Mercato delle Erbe (about a 10-minute walk) – proper knives, decent pans, even a moka pot for your morning coffee. The bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with that stiff back you sometimes get in rental places, and the shower pressure is… well, it’s Italy, so it’s not going to blow you away, but it’s perfectly adequate. The Wi-Fi works fine, which matters more than I’d like to admit. What I really loved was the little balcony – not huge, but just right for an evening glass of wine while watching the neighborhood wind down for the day. You can hear the church bells from San Domenico, and if you lean out a bit, you can actually see the hills beyond the city.

The location is sort of perfect for how I like to travel. You’re walking distance to the university area, which means great student-friendly restaurants where you can get incredible tortellini en brodo for like eight euros. The Giardini Margherita is close enough for morning runs, and you can walk to the train station in about 20 minutes if you’re doing day trips to Florence or Venice. Parking would be a nightmare if you have a car – I mean, it’s Bologna, what do you expect? But honestly, you don’t need one.

I stayed here in late spring, and the only minor thing I’d mention is that the street can get a bit echoey at night when people are walking home from dinner – Italians aren’t exactly quiet conversationalists, you know? But it dies down by midnight, and if you’re jet-lagged anyway, it probably won’t matter. The check-in was smooth, the host was responsive without being overbearing, and the whole experience just felt… authentic, I guess? Like staying in someone’s actual home rather than a sanitized hotel room. For the price and the experience, especially with that 9.2 rating, I’d definitely book it again.

The apartment was better than as advertised, spotlessly clean, comfortable and spacious for 2 people. Great location for seeing the centre of town and a quiet location. It was perfect for us.   Everything was as expected; the apartment was very clean and looked even better than the pictures! we absolutely loved it.
