So I stumbled across Casa Andromeda completely by accident – well, honestly, I was looking for something different but the name caught my eye and I’m glad it did. It’s tucked away on Via Rizzoli, which if you know Bologna at all, puts you right in the thick of things but on the second floor (piano secondo, as they say), so you’re actually above all the street noise. The whole Canton de’ Fiori area is… I mean, it’s basically where locals go when they want to feel like they’re discovering something new in their own city, you know? Not touristy, but not trying too hard to be hip either.

The first thing that hit me walking in was how they’ve managed to make this old building feel both historic and actually comfortable – like someone’s stylish aunt lives here, if that makes sense. The rooms have this sort of understated elegance that doesn’t scream “hotel” at you. I stayed in one of the corner units (interno 28/3 if you’re booking – try to snag that one), and honestly, the morning light streaming through those tall windows made my terrible instant coffee taste almost decent. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious too, which matters when you’re dealing with these older Italian buildings where sometimes the shower is basically a closet with a drain.

What really won me over though was the location – you’re a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re also close enough to the university area that there are actual good restaurants around, not just the tourist traps. There’s this little osteria about two blocks away where the owner’s grandmother still makes the tortellini, and the guy at Casa Andromeda’s front desk (who’s there most afternoons) will point you toward places like that if you ask. The whole neighborhood has this lived-in feeling during the day, then gets quietly buzzy in the evenings when the students come out. Parking’s a bit of a nightmare – I mean, it’s Bologna, what did you expect – but there’s a garage about ten minutes away that won’t completely destroy your budget.

The 9.1 rating actually feels about right, which is rare. It’s not perfect – the WiFi gets a bit spotty in the early evening when everyone’s online, and the air conditioning is more “adequate” than “arctic blast” – but there’s something genuine about the place that makes those minor things feel unimportant. The staff clearly knows the city well, and they’re the kind of people who’ll tell you which gelato place is actually worth the line versus which one just has good Instagram lighting. I ended up staying an extra day partly because I wasn’t ready to leave Bologna, but partly because checking out of Casa Andromeda felt like leaving a friend’s apartment where you’d been having a really good time.

  The location was perfect directly in front of the main square but also quiet! The room was beautiful but the loft ac remained a bit warm during the heat wave. Nick the host was very easy to reach and he responded promptly. I would highly recommend staying at this location.

  Brilliant location great communication very helpful. Lovely apartment. One thing to keep in mind the bed is on the mezzanine floor so as we are a bit older not easy for us to go to the toilet if needed during the night as it's downstairs. Most people not an issue.
  I'd put a thicker mattress protector on the bed as the bed is quite hard.
