Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Bologna over the years, and honestly? This little gem on Via Cartoleria just gets it right. The name’s a bit of a mouthful – Cartoleria Suite: Spazioso, Moderno e Centrale – but it’s actually pretty accurate. The space really is spacious, which you know is saying something in Bologna’s historic center where most places feel like they were designed for hobbits. When I walked in, I was genuinely surprised by how much room there was to actually move around without bumping into furniture every five seconds.

The location is what really sold me though. Via Cartoleria sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything that matters but not so close that you’re dealing with the chaos of Piazza Maggiore at all hours. You can walk to the Two Towers in maybe eight minutes – I timed it because I’m weird like that – and the university area is right there, which means great little trattorias that don’t feel like tourist traps. There’s this fantastic osteria called Al Cambio just around the corner that most visitors never find, and honestly, the fact that you can stumble back to your room after a proper Bolognese dinner is worth the price of admission alone. The morning market sounds drift up from the streets below, but it’s more charming than disruptive – sort of like having the city gently wake you up instead of screaming at you.

What I really appreciated was how they managed to make the place feel modern without losing that Bologna character. The renovation work is smart – they kept the high ceilings and original details but added things like proper lighting and, thank god, decent Wi-Fi. The bathroom actually has water pressure, which anyone who’s traveled through Italy knows is basically a minor miracle. I mean, the shower was hot within thirty seconds, and the towels were thick enough to actually dry you off instead of just moving water around. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to get ready for a day of wandering around the porticoes. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s not trying to be the Four Seasons, but it’s several steps above those places where you’re afraid to walk barefoot on the carpet. Check-in was smooth, the staff knew the neighborhood well enough to give actual recommendations instead of just pointing at a tourist map, and I never felt like I was bothering them with questions. That 8.8 rating makes sense when you add it all up – comfortable, well-located, and run by people who seem to actually care about what they’re doing.

  The apartment was clean and the bathroom had a really modern vibe. There was plenty of space to move around. The WIFI worked great throughout our stay. The bedding was really cozy, and we loved the spacious walk-in closet. Plus, the location was great, just a short stroll to the center of the city. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment is located on a one-way street, which means you might hear some noise from passing cars and motorbikes, especially if you're a light sleeper. However, it's generally a quiet street and tends to calm down quite a bit as gets closer to midnight. One more: Really missed to have a washer machine. We realized that it was not even advertised in apartment, but the washer machine would be a perfect addition.

  We stayed for 5 days in this property. The location is excellent and the property is very clean. Modern amenities, very comfortable bed, good size property for a 1 bedroom.

  The location was fantastic, ten minutes walk to San Stefano. We liked the street and the characterful building the apartment was in. Very spacious apartment with a useful dressing room.
  
  What could be improved: Unfortunately, as others have said, the cleaning let it down. The sofa and throw weren’t clean and smelt a bit. There was a drain smell in the bathroom constantly. It really needs a deep down clean. No cleaning products supplied apart from dishwasher tablets and a little washing up liquid. We missed a microwave, toaster and sieve. If these things were sorted, it would be amazing. It’s a shame it has been neglected a little.

  The apartment is located at ground floor in a quiet building near Basilica San Stefano. The apartment corresponds very well to the pictures.
  
  What could be improved: After checking-in, we realized that the sofa (in the living room is an extensible couch) has visible dirty spots and releases a strong odour of urine. Possibly from previous guests, but we found it hard to accept in a property with a score over 9 and professionally managed (the apartment is managed by a specialized company).
  The apartment has no washing mashine, only dish waching machine (but this is correctly specified in the description)

  The location was excellent, the communication with the property managers was very good and whenever we needed them they were very responsive. Around the apartment there are many shops that can satisfy your needs in any case.
  
  What could be improved: I want to believe that there was some problem with the hot water and that it is not meant to work for only one person at a time during the day.
