Asinelli Panoramic Rooftop, In front of the Two Towers Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Bologna, but this one actually made me stop and think “damn, I got lucky with this booking.” The Asinelli Panoramic Rooftop sits right on Via Rizzoli – and I mean RIGHT there, like you walk out the door and boom, you’re staring up at the Two Towers. Not some distant view you need binoculars for, but the actual towers looming above you like medieval skyscrapers. The morning I checked in, there was this soft mist hanging around the Torre degli Asinelli, and honestly, it felt like stepping into a postcard that doesn’t suck.

The rooftop situation is where this place earns its name – and that 9.3 rating makes total sense once you get up there. I mean, you’re basically eye-level with the city’s most famous landmarks, watching the light change on those ancient bricks throughout the day. What surprised me though was how quiet it gets up there, even with all the tourist chaos happening on the street below. Via Rizzoli can get pretty hectic during the day (it’s basically tourist central), but something about being elevated above it all… you get this bubble of calm while still being in the thick of everything. The rooms themselves are solid 4-star territory – nothing groundbreaking, but they’ve got that Italian attention to detail thing down. Good linens, decent shower pressure, and windows that actually open properly, which you’d be surprised how many places mess up.

What really sold me on this place was the location intelligence, if that makes sense. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re also perfectly positioned to duck into those little side streets off Rizzoli where the actual good restaurants hide. I found this tiny osteria called Il Paiolo just around the corner that serves the best tortellini in brodo I’ve had outside someone’s nonna’s kitchen. The hotel staff – and this is crucial in Bologna – actually know their neighborhood. They didn’t just hand me the standard tourist map; they marked up spots where locals eat, when the morning markets are worth hitting, even which gelato places to avoid (looking at you, overpriced spots near the university). Parking is… well, it’s Bologna, so forget about it. But the train station is close enough that you can drag your luggage without wanting to die, and once you’re there, you’re walking everywhere anyway. The only minor thing that might bug some people is the street noise – Via Rizzoli doesn’t exactly sleep, and Italian traffic has its own particular symphony. But honestly? I loved falling asleep to the sound of late-night conversations drifting up from the street. It felt authentically Bologna, you know what I mean?

  • Exceptional – Yvonne from Ireland – 14 July 2025 (10/10)

A light filled, spotlessly clean apartment in a superb location.

  • Fantastic apartment in the heart of Bologna. – Karen from United Kingdom – 28 June 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic location in the heart of old Bologna. A modern, clean, well-designed apartment plus lovely small terrace. We (2 adults) spent 8 days here during the film festival and it was perfect. The hosts are great too; responsive and helpful.

What could be improved: Nothing. The only comment would be that guests need to be able to manage many steps. This was not an issue for us and part of the experience.

  • Fabulous apartment in the best location – Julia from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (10/10)

City break in Bologna with my adult daughter. The apartment is in the most fabulous location in the centre of the city and is quiet and very comfortable with a fabulous roof terrace.

  • Beautiful, clean, great location, with everything to make you feel comfortable! – Мария from Bulgaria – 29 September 2024 (10/10)

The place was really great. Located just in the centre of Bologna with a cute romantic terrace and a view to the Two Towers. Extremely clean with everything you need for your visit. The host was really nice and made our arrival really easy. There's also great coffee and breakfast you can get in the building. There were a bit of stairs but noting much. Definitely would book again if going to Bologna!

  • Exceptional – Giovanna from Portugal – 2 April 2024 (10/10)

The location was great, close to everything and with a very nice and cute view.
The flat was very comfortable and had everything necessary for my stay.

What could be improved: It was still a bit cold but there was a sign not to change the temperature in the heater system control, it was not clear if it was central or something similar.

  • Exceptional – 高 from Italy – 31 January 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is in the center of the city Because it's only two minutes from the maggiore square. You can see the Twin Towers from the apartment. Its not far from the railway station It takes about 15 minutes to walk or take a taxi for five minutes, the apartment is very clean and tidy. The bed is very comfortable. It feels particularly good to have sunshine through the big window of the apartment. If I go to bologna again I will book this apartment again.
